I am an Indian and my country is secular according to the constitution. Though it is a principle in spirit, to uphold the principle of secularism in schools, quite often families encourage notions of religion and communalism and they are carried by children as strong impressions and animosities. We hear of cases of violence against individuals as well communities in the name of these differences. As global citizens an awareness can be instilled even from a very tender age, to have not just tolerance, but actual feeling of brotherhood towards all without referring to communities. But the stake-holders in this endeavour need to be parents, society and politicians apart from the school authorities.
