I am no poet. Lend me your eyes on a piece I prepared for former President of Ghana, John Evans Atta Mills who moved on to join very distinguished leaders in the silent world. Tomorrow will mark second anniversary since his sudden demise. It would be disheartening on the part of organized labour made up of Trade's Union Congress (TUC) and public sector workers if its one-day industrial action proceed as planned in protest of the current government's unpopular decisions. Not only will their nationwide labour strike harm productivity in Ghana,it could also ruin the spirit of Professor Mills' anniversary. I will deal with TUC in a later post.
This poem is dedicated to family/friends of late former President
John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills and good people of the Republic of
A mighty man yielded to the cruelty of death;
A nation grieved.
A storm bellowed the skies of Ghana and forced an usual silence
It was sudden, shocking, painful and unprecedented that, first
time a sitting
president of Ghana had died while carrying out his duty.
A moment when the nation stood more united as ever to console
another of a tragedy.
The good old Professor John Evans Atta Mills, just as you
encouraged peace in life, remain rested in peace and may God
our homeland Ghana!
