Gender equality In the course of recent history, a growing problem has plagued the world and has also gone unnoticed to all except those who must endure it. One may think that it is the rise of terrorist networks or perhaps the surge of diseases, however this one problem in particular is a problem that has not received much coverage at all, yet affects roughly around three billion people every day. This wide spread struggle endured by many is the rise of gender inequality. T...

"Sometimes right, Sometimes wrong", "Boys are boys will make the mistake", "Just for a MINOR crime, you want us to hang the BOY" - these are the replies given by the elders when told about the most odious crime of their boys. Despite of knowing that their "future" has put hands on someone's "honor" still say so. They know their boy's "minor" crime has costed someone lifetime happiness yet they remain clammed up. Instead, they become equal partners in this odious crime by pressurizi...

It's time for youth to talk about Sexual Violence. This past June, members of governments and civil society organisations joined forces at the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict. A delegation of youth was invited to attend and participate in summit discussions, where they were encouraged to rally the #YouthVoice on social media. The youth voice is 1.8 billion strong, so the task of representing youth at the Global Summit and rallying them by means of s...

I learnt from my "Women Weave the Web" page, how young ladies from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Japan and other parts of the world join forces to affect the life of women in all endeavours. Also, the AWID, a non governmental organization, in South Africa, portrays the notion of feminism. I remember, when my mum stood behind me, when I came home with a cut on my head. Although I had caused the fight, she stood behind me no matter what. That is the trait of mothers today, to advocate. Every Mother will do t...

How many times have women been stepped over? How many times have YOU been stepped over because you are a girl? How many times have you been seen as a sexual object? How many times have you LET others step over you because you are a girl? As the years come and go, and the world " evolves " there has been an alarming issue remaining, and it has not ceded -to be honest- it has grown. That issue is the lack of respect, and following of women's and girls rights. We see that women...

"I am a feminist, and a woman's right activist." This is how Saba Ismael, the Executive Director of Aware Girls, was introduced during the Unicef Activate Talk I had the privelege of seeing on June 10th. A feminist is someone who believes in the social and political equality of the sexes. It is hard to believe that in the Western world there is anyone left who doesn't voluntarily claim the title of feminist, and wear it with pride. Surely everybody agrees that a world where all gen...

This year, women made great strides in career areas, world service and the global sector of humanity helping. Humanity helping? Making change! I really love this commercial that aired during the Golden Globes last weekend. I don't really have much else to say other than how wonderful it is. It features a song by Sara Bareilles called Brave. For your entertainment, I posted some of the lyrics below. Have fun with the video. And women, remember to be brave! Brave by Sara Bareille...
