Immigration is a tricky and highly contested issue in American politics and society today. The whole issue becomes “foggy” right from the get-go. The reasons for one leaving may seem voluntary to one person but to another may seem forced. In our literature class, we have been discussing the idea of the "American Dream." This "dream" was first manifested by the primary idea of immigration. It began with the Puritans and the Separatists - two groups of people seeking an escape from persecution. To me, this essential creation of our nation built upon the desire of freedom is incredible.
