I am from Kenya. I come from Kenya. I identify with Africa as a continent of origin. Africa is not a country. 54 countries, totally distinct ways of life. I have no idea what language they speak in Zimbabwe (unless I Google it). I have no idea of the history of Nigeria, unless I refer to my history class notes. I hear majority of Tunisians are white. When I settled on doing this article, I did not anticipate the effort that would be required in developing the necessary arguments and content. I had underestimated the amount of time and research I would need to be able to justify the absence or presence of an African Identity. Regardless, I had to do it; I considered it extremely necessary. Sometimes in February, a prominent Kenyan writer and African icon Binyavanga Wainaina came out; the reactions in the Kenyan media as well...
