Upon our arrival at Barsaloi in Samburu North (North-west Kenya), to coordinate and Facilitate a Gender based Violence response and prevention workshop, We got information that one woman had suffered injuries on her left arm that very night, after being battered by her brother in law. This incident caused a slight unrest in the small town that is out of network coverage and lacks hydro-electric power supply. The lady was rushed to the Catholic hospital nearby. It is typically Malaysian to eat half a bowl of rice and throw the other half into the bin. It seems like it has never crossed anyone's mind that half way across the globe, people are starving to death. Malnutrition is slowly killing them all, not to mention the many other diseases that take their lives. This poverty deeply affects the younger generation, the future leaders. How are they to make this world a better and more sustainable world if they themselves are in starvation...

A lobby group from the city of Mombasa, Kenya, is advocating for the distribution of contraceptives to Primary School children. Why, you may ask? Well... the group argues that condoms and other contraceptives be given to pupils to reduce sexual immorality. At this point, you must be paralyzed with shock. This news made me stiffen as little prickles of fear rose on the nape of my neck every second I imagined that this was actually happening. The government of Kenya recently propos...

I felt it was important to share this disturbing and emotional video of children as young as ten years old being subjected to extremely hazardous child labor in a mine located in Nyatike, Migori town. It's a toxic toil that shows scores of children torturing their bodies in open mines where the use of child labor has become common practice. What creative ways can we eradicate child labor from the face of the earth? What culture are we luring our children into?

“Giving birth to a child while myself being a child was the most painful experience of my life,” said Rubina, a woman from Pakistan who had been married at 12 years old. She was interviewed by the team of Girls Not Brides – The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage, on this website (http://www.girlsnotbrides.org/girls-voices/rubinas-story-pakistan/). Before we get to the causes and the impact of child marriage, I think we should learn about the meaning. Child marriage, a...

“Many, many people are stranded, scattered all over the place,” Mr. Atem said. “This is really devastating because we tried to go back and help this country. It’s really a sad situation.”

AWERIAL, South Sudan — When Jacob Atem was just a young boy, his parents were killed during the long war for independence from Sudan, and he found himself among the legions of orphaned children known as the Lost Boys wandering hundreds of miles across this part of Africa. Resettled and educated in the United States, he returned to the newly independent nation of South Sudan two years ago to open a clinic in the village where he was born. But the promise of this young country...
