ISSUES AFFECTING WOMEN IN OUR COMMUNITY OF ALEXANDER IN SOUTH AFRICA

Namasté everyone. :) It’s 4:13 and instead of sleeping after taking my soothing gel for stomach burns, I’m delighted to finally write, complete and publish my first article as a selected and happy Blogging Intern at UNICEF Voices of Youth 2014. First of all, I apologize for my late start but I had some health issues and I wasn’t in good shape enough to get started and share my energies with you – the share of good and healthy vibes is important to me! I am a Mauritian,...

I often say: " You should be proud of being who you are and where you come from, don't try to pretend you belong to another country or another community.. You're who you are and you should be proud no matter what! ". I believe in each community, there are good and bad things, there are all types of humans ( the good, the bad and the ugly ), there are no perfect communities like the philosophes hope, there are no communities without problems and issues. But no matter what, it's up t...

In my country Nigeria, there is a post-university national service requirement. During my national service at North-Central Nigeria, I worked at a secondary school (high school) with almost no basic facilities. The school had only one typewriter and two shelves (supposed to be a library) with outdated brown paper books. Over a few months with my students, I came to understand the poor quality of teaching they had been exposed to, learnt to value their learning deeply, and resolved...

Dear VOY, Working with you has been a great journey. I honestly believe that you have made my life a more meaningful one by simply allowing me to write away my concerns on this forum. I have grown mentally and emotionally while reading what many of my peers have written from all over the world. I still cannot believe that I can share my opinion as openly and freely as I do beside my friends from Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and beyond. I wish to commemorate my 1 year an...

I want our government to enforce regulations on how we can keep our surroundings clean. People should be told of what happens to the environment when it is not taken care of. Here is a picture that shows how Mongu, a town in the western part of Zambia, is not cared for by its own people... I wonder what would happen if this kind of dirt is allowed to pile up for more than 5 years.... Let's stand together and find a way to show these people how to keep our environment clean....

Positive Deviance is based on the observation that in every community there are certain individuals or groups whose uncommon behaviors and strategies enable them to find better solutions to problems than their peers, while having access to the same resources and facing similar or worse challenges. This is a video profiling of a Zambian based Voices of Youth Connect Educator called Josephine. She explains how she has emerged has a shining example in her community called Kanyama....

This is my last month in the VOY internship. I have had an amazing time for the past six months; I have met some pretty amazing friends and interacted intellectually with a few great minds from Africa and beyond. I have had strong critics in my posts, and had my stories read by so many people, I have pushed my mind to greater heights, interrogated concepts and beliefs, shared opinions and inspirations and most of all I have been able to discover some truth in my quest. I have exper...
