Another Malala Day is here. A day set aside not just to celebrate Malala Yousafzai. It is a day for all children everywhere to raise their voices and be heard. It is a day to stand up for education and say to world that we are stronger than the enemies of education and stronger than the forces that threaten girls, boys and women from leading happy and productive lives. In the Spirit of Malala and the significance of Malala Day, I would love everyone to ponder on these questions....

Its 5 o'clock in the morning, my alarm rings, I snooze it and try to continue my sweet dream from where the alarm intruded. My alarm rings again. *phew* with a sigh I ask myself two questions-- “Is it 5 am already?” or “Did I set my alarm wrong?” I reach out for my watch to confirm the time. Oh dear, it’s really 5 am. A premonition of a hectic day ahead makes me wish the night was starting all over. Still caught between the land of my dreams and the real world, I mana...

A good example is the best sermon. - Benjamin Franklin Children are the future of tomorrow and most people desire a very bright future for all children. Sadly most children are susceptible and exposed to so many societal ills like child labour, slavery, war, violence, rape, prostitution etc. In order to prevent all these, so many organisations and individuals invest their time, energy, resources to make provision for the education, health, safety and general welfare of children a...

In the past two weeks I have been participating in a peer to peer education program organised by Women, Trafficking and Child Labour Eradication Foundation (WOTCLEF) Nigeria, where children from different schools are educated about their rights, child trafficking, sexual abuse and other vices that affect them. It is really fun working with children and it has been a wonderful experience. Spending time with them gave me an insight into their thoughts, their experiences, their expect...

Are you one of those who think youth have no voice? Are you someone who believes that teenagers have no say in making this world a better place? If you are, then you must be mistaken and need a change of heart. Voices of Youth is a unique platform where young people have the liberty to learn more, do more, say more and discuss more about anything and everything. I have read and shared lots of posts on this platform, but most importantly I have learnt a lot. I would love to use this...

“He who, without violence, threat or fraud, abducts or deceives a minor under 18 years of age, shall be punished by imprisonment for 1 to 5 years and a fine of 200 to 500 dirhams. If the nubile who was removed or deceived marries her abductor, he can no longer be prosecuted except by the persons empowered to demand the annulment of the marriage, and then only after the annulment has been proclaimed.” Article 475 of the Moroccan Penal Code. The Second paragraph of the...

Thank God, 2014 has started well but in order to make better progress it is very important for me to review the year 2013; not to live in the past, but to understand it and use it to create a better future. In the words of Soren Kierkgaard “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” 2013 was not a perfect year for me but it was still great and better than 2012. It started with so much optimism about lots of things I planned for myself but somehow t...

One lovely evening in the first week of December, I had a discussion with a friend who has a passion for writing poems and short stories. He asked for my opinion about a new story he had just wrote. During the course of our conversation, I advised him to join Voices of Youth and always post his write-ups here. He mentioned that he always sees my tweets about Voices of Youth and asked me to tell him more about it. This question and the response I gave inspired me to work on this pos...

What is love? Are you walking in true love? Do you truly love your neighbour as yourself? So many things have been said about love, both those that truly reflect what true love is and those that do not but one thing I am convinced about is that love is the greatest of all and it conquers everything. I came across a piece written by Joel Osteen which really inspired me and has become a creed in my life. I have it pasted on my wall where I recite it every day. It has really boosted m...
