“Our youth are not failing the system; the system is failing our youth. Ironically, the very youth who are being treated the worst are the young people who are going to lead us out of this nightmare.” — Rachel JacksonI can now proudly say that Mauritius launched it's first Youth Parliament, and I'm really humbled to be a part of this amazing initiative. Most people do not realize that if youth are part of the problem, they are also part of the solution. If we want to promote change, we cannot le...

Disclaimer: This post depicts the socio-realities of some women & men in an indo-asian society, using a dash of sarcasm and the pronoun "I" is an amalgamation of many voices. Not intended to hurt any feelings, but tried to portray a mirror of the society, using a different style of writing, to send the message across.I feel so privileged to be able to walk on silk sandy beaches, wind in my hair, wet feet in the deep blue sea, with a dreamy weather, the sun sending bright rays to my fairy tal...

When I joined VOY years ago, I was 17, and still in High School. I had a very regular life: I used to wake up, go to school, come back home, study, sleep and repeat. I used to live in my own shell focused on my own life problems, like how to have a good social life or get better grades at school. On weekends, I would spend time with my family and then go back to that routine on Monday. Then gradually everything changed. I got back the voice I lost, the light that faded, and since then there has...

The #16DaysofActivism starts on 25 Nov and the theme is Gender Based Violence. Recently I got a chance to interact with Sunny Angel, a survivor, finalist for the Heroine of the Year Award 2017, and author of WINGS.Sunny sent me the book WINGS and I loved it, and I think that it's a very interesting book for young people. The book is a memoir, a true story, which explores different aspects of gender based violence, from marital rape, to stalking, to emotional abuse, to honor abuse, to drugs and s...

I woke up to Twitter yesterday to many tweets on #MeToo from people I know, and all of them were sharing their assault stories. The #MeToo movement was started by actress Alyssa Milano, and the #MeToo hashtag has been used over 200,00 times, according to the BBC. It also went viral on other social media, like Facebook and Instagram.People have used it as a social microphone to voice their sexual harassment stories, rape stories, stories about cat calls and violence at work, and even abuse stories...

I missed this place so much, and it's been so long since I've written a post, and even though I used to come, read, and comment, this feeling of typing your thoughts in a post is so refreshing. I have been writing a lot lately - drafts, law articles and doing some projects, and also taking this break to recharge a bit.College is back in full swing, and every time we talk about college, or schools, there is this issue called bullying, which sticks to our skins, and accompanies us everywhere. Bull...

I remember one of my first posts here on VOY was on periods: #HappyToBleed which I will link here. At that time, around one and half year ago, I was not really sure whether I should write that post or not. I did not know what to expect and how people would react to it. There were very few posts on menstruation on VOY and to be very honest, I was so nervous when I pressed 'Submit'. When the post got published, I was so happy with the outcome and the positive comments I got especially from Kate (t...

Mental Illness = NOT a Joke

I am going to start this post very directly by saying that "Mental Illness is not something to joke about". Mental Illness affects many people daily and there is absolutely no humor in it. It's not funny at all to throw insensitive jokes around and hurt people in so many ways. It is not funny either to reject people suffering from mental illness. Everyone can have mental issues, whether it is chronic stress/depression or complex things like bipolar disorder. I don't know if you h...
