Life can suck sometimes. So people will tell you to keep going, to smile and put it all behind. They will tell you that this is just how life is. That it can be unfair, but that it goes on.They’re right.Mostly.Yes. Life is often unfair. Yes. It’s good to smile, to laugh, to be strong. It’s good to put negative feelings behind and just keep going. It’s good to be happy. But we aren’t gods. We’re not invincible or perfect. We’re human. And sometimes, we just need to be sad. We need to shed some tear...

I love being in a crowd. It actually seems like such a mundane activity. Such a usual, ordinary thing.Yet, if you look deeper, it is one of the strangest and most mysterious things a man can do.Let me put it this way: you are a soul. And suddenly, you are surrounded by hundreds of other souls. Souls that you have never seen before. Souls that walk, speak and breathe just like you. Souls that are breathing the same air as you.Souls covered by skin... Dark skin, fair skin, soft skin, rough skin… W...

Sometimes, I like to take my glasses off, and explore the world around me. I love doing this when I am sitting in the middle of a crowd. And I do mean sitting, because if I was trying to walk through that crowd without my glasses, I’d probably break an arm, right after hugging a complete stranger that I thought was my mum. Anyways, I am short-sighted, so when I take off my glasses, everything becomes blurry. I find there is a certain beauty to it. A blurry world filled with blurry people and blu...

“So you thought you knew me.You looked at my clothes, at my hairYou analyzed the shape of my faceOf my skin, of my bodyAnd you thought…Well, what did you think?Did you think I was nice?Because of the smile I put onDid you think I was pretty?Because of the dress I woreWhat went on in that mind of yours? As your eyes stroked my edges.Did you like what stood in front of you?Did you enjoy exploring my skin? What thoughts crossed your mind?As you smiled that wicked smile. And what were you thinking?When...

I’ve always wondered how it would feel to be surrounded by complete silence. Not the kind that you would find on earth. But the kind of silence that is so real and solid that it feels like an actual place, and not just a lack of sound. The kind of place where you wouldn’t even hear the sound of your own breath or of your own heartbeat. The kind where your voice, or the loudest of your screams, would be engulfed by the darkness, and lost in the shadows. The kind of silence that would show you fea...

A storm.A storm has come. And it still hasn’t left. She’s stuck within its heart, helpless to its power. It shakes her, spins her around, and flies her high up in the air before smashing her back down.It controls her like a puppet. It shows her the sun for just one second before throwing her back into the dark.Hope is indeed a strong thing. It’s killing her. Just when she thinks that the storm is over, just as she reaches out for the cloudless sky, she is pushed back into the chaos that it holds...

“Come on now! Smile for the picture! Say cheese!”Oh how much I have heard these words. I’ve always wondered why it was so important to smile in a picture. It’s for the beauty I guess, maybe to freeze the happiness in time, even though you’re usually faking the smile, and might not be happy at all. Actually, I find it strange how much a smile can change the face of a person, and even the image you get of the person behind that smile.I was taking a walk one day, and I crossed roads with an old man...

Blissful ignorance. I just love that expression. Like my dad once told me: “The paradox makes its beauty”. It is strange how two opposite words can make so much more sense when together than when apart. Let’s define the exact meaning of each. Ignorance: also known as lack of knowledge, blindness, incomprehension, shallowness, mental incapacity. A term used to describe the simple minded, the people who can’t see further than their nose. On the other hand: blissful, als...

“I want to change the world” She was five, staring up at her dad, her heart filled with hope and wonder. He smiled at her and said “Yes, monkey and I know you will!” He took her in his arms and threw her into the air. She giggled till she couldn’t breathe. She remembered that day like it was yesterday. It’s a memory she’s always treasured. A memory that brings a feeling of excitement and eagerness to what the future will bring. Yet, being a kid is much easier than growing up....
