Last August, Malaysia celebrated our Independence Day, a mark of freedom for the nation as a whole – freedom to self-determination, to have sovereignty over our own home soil, and to chart our own path as a modern nation. The word 'independence' and 'freedom' surely evoke something in the individual as a citizen of a country that not fifty seven years ago was under the colonization of another. What does freedom mean to the common man? Freedom to be part of a democracy, to vot...

-As you make steps further, menacing to engulf the human race pitilessly, we plead: Kindly spare us. - We are a flawed species, with different views. Be it a curse from God or our own negligence, we plead: Forgive us wholeheartedly. - Our tears bear testimony of the pain felt when seeing our dear ones dying, we plead: Soothe our ongoing cries. -You've shaken the world of many, taking them away with you, we plead: Blunt your axe please. - We are used to being bruised and pained,...

Tuesday marked six months since the Al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist group, Boko Haram, kidnapped 276 Nigerian girls from a boarding school in the northeastern village of Chibok. I am the same age as many of the girls who were abducted and I feel that it is important for me, as a young woman, to speak out on their behalf, in support of Bring Back Our Girls movement.

Tuesday marked six months since the Al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist group, Boko Haram, kidnapped 276 Nigerian girls from a boarding school in the northeastern village of Chibok. Three months ago, Boko Haram released a video showing its leader standing in front of armored vehicles mocking the Bring Back Our Girls movement. World leaders and celebrities promised us that swift action would be taken, but 219 girls remain in captivity waiting to be sold into marriage. Protestors in Ab...

The United Nations designated every first Monday of October of every year as World Habitat Day. The purpose of World Habitat Day is to reflect on the state of our towns and cities, and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter and habitation. It is also intended to remind the world that we all have the power and the responsibility to shape the future of our cities and towns. Hello! I am so sorry as I have been absent from VOY for a month. This being due to very hard times right now. I needed to gather myself in order to do my best and I'm back and ready. Due to all the things going on right now I've learned many things. The main one is that you can't fight pain with pain. We've all gone through many hard things, maybe many of you are in my situation in which you life has turned upside down. Life is a world of pain for everybody "...

Today is the International Day of the Girl Child. Five months ago, nearly 300 Nigerian girls were abducted from their dormitories in a school in the northeastern town of Chibok. Boko Haram, a terrorist group affiliated with Al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the abduction and said they sold the girls as child brides. Today, most of the girls are still in captivity and global cries to help them are intermittent at best. We must not lose momentum. Every year, 150 million adolescent...

Youths are seen often as a shallow age group concerned mainly with things that benefit them. Far from this stereotypical idea of selfishness, youths worldwide including my country have contributed to many causes that we feel passionately about. In 2011, a group of youths banded together to combat the issue of human trafficking. It’s easy to dismiss an issue if you have managed to convince yourself that it doesn’t concern you. Case in point: the modern-day version of slavery...

Youth are the hope of every country, they represent a major power. If we could use this power for the good of the country, I assure you that the future will be such a great one. But if we try to create obstacles and to prohibit those youth from building their country, I can say we won’t get anything, we will be like someone who is playing with the fire! I guess if the leaders of a country don't try to encourage youth, these leaders must expect a disaster in the future. They w...
