Why do you think men beat women is it because they want respect or because they just want to? Well, mostly from what I’ve heard men beat women because they claim that the women deserve it but that’s not the case men beat women because they want to be in control, to be respected, to satisfy their ego and finally to release their frustrations. Let’s talk about why they do it to be in control. Some men feel that it is their known right to be in control so when women disagree...

Gender equality is a topic that fascinates me, and something that I believe we should all strive for and work towards. I am a proud feminist. But what I dislike is the misconceptions that come along with saying you are one. The surprised looks and the hollow single minded questions, those really bother me to be honest. I am 14 years old and I am currently in 9th grade. The other day, I don't remember precisely what I was talking about with a guy friend. At some point in the...

Education is important for everyone, but it is especially significant for girls and women. This is true not only because education is an entry point to other opportunities, but also because the educational achievements of women can have ripple effects within the family and across generations. Investing in girls' education is one of the most effective ways to reduce poverty. Investments in secondary school education for girls yields especially high dividends. Girls who have been...

In this focus piece, Youth to End Sexual Violence explores the issue of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). From the blog: "My legs were completely numb and the pain between them was so intense. I wished I would die. I felt my poor mother hold me in her arms - my memory ends at this instant until I opened my eyes and the killer woman was gone. I was lying on the ground close to a rock, and my legs were tied together with strips of cloth binding me from my ankles to my hips so I could not move..."

I was lying on the ground close to a rock, and my legs were tied together with strips of cloth binding me from my ankles to my hips so I could not move. I turned my head towards the rock - it was drenched with blood as if an animal had been slaughtered there. I saw...my meat -...

Tuesday marked six months since the Al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist group, Boko Haram, kidnapped 276 Nigerian girls from a boarding school in the northeastern village of Chibok. I am the same age as many of the girls who were abducted and I feel that it is important for me, as a young woman, to speak out on their behalf, in support of Bring Back Our Girls movement.

Tuesday marked six months since the Al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist group, Boko Haram, kidnapped 276 Nigerian girls from a boarding school in the northeastern village of Chibok. Three months ago, Boko Haram released a video showing its leader standing in front of armored vehicles mocking the Bring Back Our Girls movement. World leaders and celebrities promised us that swift action would be taken, but 219 girls remain in captivity waiting to be sold into marriage. Protestors in Ab...

Today is the International Day of the Girl Child. Five months ago, nearly 300 Nigerian girls were abducted from their dormitories in a school in the northeastern town of Chibok. Boko Haram, a terrorist group affiliated with Al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the abduction and said they sold the girls as child brides. Today, most of the girls are still in captivity and global cries to help them are intermittent at best. We must not lose momentum. Every year, 150 million adolescent...

Last Monday while one of my friends was travelling by bus, a man in his fifties sat next to her. Within a few minutes he had started brushing his shoulders against her, and later he had touched her knee. When she felt uncomfortable, she had moved to another seat without complaining. In another incident, a girl was asked by a guy on a crowded bus to sleep with him; however, when he touched her hand she slapped him. Further, a girl said that whenever someone comes closer and clos...

Deviating from the prompt of '2 Lives 2 Miles Apart', this post examines two generalized views of today's mainstream feminist movement from different lenses, based off my experience with feminism in Malaysia (specifically, from a youth perspective). From this, we will come to discover what exactly people mean when they say there are feminisms, and how important it is to ensure our goals are compatible with each other in order to achieve them. - You are from an upper middle-...

Dear girl, dear woman, I will begin with this; you are beautiful. You are gorgeous and no one can take this from you. Many times, women are not respected. From non-developed countries to sexism, many women are abused, both physically and mentally. As a result, they don't have confidence, they don't believe in themselves, their powers and their beauty and many fall into depression, or even worse, they commit suicide. Unfortunately, society has a big part of this tragedy. Even...
