Should we participate for the sake of participation or should it be because we have something very key to say? Are the issues we are raising any different from what the older generation is raising? Do we need to be involved if what we are raising similar to what is being raised by them? The recent clamor for youth participation can almost be compared to the fight for women involvement in influencing development during the 19th century. Young people are coming out in large numbe...

If I was Ban for a month, my key priorities would be to eradicate global hunger and extreme poverty, end all brutal killings associated with power and politics and then hold dialogue with terrorists; try and understand what their deal is and find a way of ending their unacceptable behaviors. So if suddenly I found myself at the helm of the United Nations with all the power and influence that come with being the UNSG (United Nations Secretary General), I would make sure the above me...

There is a famous quote, “youth is wasted on the young.” I don’t know how you feel about that, I on the other hand think “wisdom is wasted on the old.” And being young in this era is not a walk in the park, the life the older generation has created for us sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. We are better educated than most of our parents but we have to work twice as hard to afford the kind of life that could very easy to them when they were our age. I have been wait...

Yes in Nigeria you can be persecuted for homosexual acts in public, in Uganda parliament passed a law where a person can face a a life sentence for being gay. Yes it is constitutionally illegal in more than 38 countries in Africa to be gay, and homosexuality is considered an indecent act that is punishable by law. However unfair this may be, morals and traditions cannot be forced onto a society under whatever circumstances. It takes a lifetime to model and embrace culture and tradi...

What can I say, South Africa has always been that country for me. I want to go there so badly. After I read the very well written article by Aulia (http://bit.ly/LlBZjH) from Indonesia who was talking about her love for India, I thought to myself, "hey, why not pen down something about my most favorite destination as well." This thought brought back all those wonderful reasons I have for South Africa. Have you ever heard someone speak zulu? They have this thing where they do...

Getting into power in my country is based not on your ideologies or a good campaign strategy but rather which tribe you were born into. A man is most times not judged by his skill set or character but rather the tribe in which he was born into. Belonging to a certain tribe killed a lot of people in 2008, displaced thousands and left a country picking up its pieces trying to get back on its feet after taking a massive fall. This is not only limited to my country as it is happening...

Forget all the sensational stories you have ever heard or read, don’t mind the discouragements thrown at you about how what you seek is impossible. Disregard the words, the texts, the complexities and harsh realities. Stick to that you want to achieve, maintain focus and live as if this was your only ultimate goal. Because it should be, it has to be if you want to achieve it. Define it, model it, and then execute? Yes the world needs changing; from the hunger, war, greed and th...

This is that Christmas post that is written in sort of a reflective manner! I am currently on holiday in the coast of Kenya but decided to take some time and look at what happened in the year. This not entirely my review of 2013, well not entirely, it is one of those post you compose in that reflective mood. All in all, I hope your holiday is coming on well and as you read this post, please spare sometimes later and have some fun! I recommend it! 2013 was that year when youth p...

Sometime in early November, I was invited to a very informative youth-led COP 19/CMP9 preparatory meeting with Kenya’s KEY country negotiators from the Ministry of Environment and the National Environment Management Authority. The meeting saw three constituency groups present their COP 19 position papers: · Kenyan youth · African CSOs · National draft position (We are not supposed to call it Government position) The youth position paper was presented by the Ken...
