On November 2, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution that "supports the independence and autonomy of sport as well as the mission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in leading the Olympic Movement." The resolution ultimately separates the controversies of world politics with the active participation in sports - banning boycotts of the Olympic Games and requiring countries to fully participate in athletics. It also disallows the IOC from banning ant...

Its seems to me that this summer is much warmer than the previous summers we have had. The rain has not even been constant, it is not so often that rain starts in December. Mostly it begins to rain constantly and often late October. It must be that there is too much heat in the atmosphere causing the water vapor not to condense but if there is condensation then obviously we wont have rain. But what will happen to our country if there is no rain? The gases that are let out into th...

I am a student in an International Baccalaureate high school in the United States. In my IB Spanish class, we are currently discussing social relations (one of the core themes for the course) and their implications toward human rights. I find it funny, hysterical even, that people think human rights violations do not exist. Sure, if you are an innocent, little girl scout of age 9, I would expect no more from you; however, if you are of thinking (that is, lucid thought) age, you sho...

The UNICEF Post-2015 Team is pleased to share its new social media sites on Instagram and Tumblr! These sites will give updates on the Post-2015 Development Agenda from a child rights perspective. In July, the UN System released a report that was essentially a “first draft” of the future Post-2015 Development Agenda and which will be what governments use to negotiate on for the official Agenda next fall. The UNICEF Post-2015 social media sites on Instagram and Tumblr will b...

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), is a treaty ratified by a almost all the countries in the world. It is distinctly clear that people and governments value the rights of their children, and are constantly involved in activities that facilitate children to realise their full potential through rights. In Sri Lanka, specific focus is given to various issues such as realising access to education and healthcare for children - in fact, access to educatio...
