There are many poor, sick, underprivileged people in the world. Of course, all of us can say that we knew that. We can say that we saw it on the news one day or that our history teacher was discussing some vague issue in some ambiguous manner with us; but what are we doing about it? Poverty and suffering have a very obvious correlation that we can link with a slew of statistics and data. However, I'm not here to give you that litany of things. I'm here to do and help you do what...

Of the over 7 billion people that are on earth today, all those aged 24 years and younger account for nearly 40 percent of the world's population. What this means is that effectively roughly half of the world’s population will be, or in some cases already are, consumers of services and goods for at least the next half century. From a business stand point, this means that one should effectively concentrate one’s efforts on this target group, because this will be one’s market f...

In a county where rampant incidences of insecurity have been a bane for far too long, not forgetting the harsh climatic conditions that have made residents remain in constant grip of famine, Samburu County in Northern Kenya has always been making it to the headlines for all the wrong reasons. The killing of 42 Kenyan police officers in 2012 by heavily armed cattle raiders was the highlight trend of the worrying trend of insecurity in the region. The Catholic Diocese of Maralal...

The Philippines is currently under the international microscope. After the wake of Typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan), my country has been on the receiving end of the world’s generosity and kindness. Nations that most Filipinos have never even visited before have given millions of dollars in relief efforts and goods; some countries have even commissioned their best doctors and volunteers to work directly at ground zero. Let me take this time now to express my grat...

This audio piece gives an indication of how radio is being used in South Africa as a very powerful medium for youth to give young people a voice and connects them with their communities. It is also through this medium that young reporters are able to develop and refine their journalism and life skills to make a great impact in their communities. The fact that BBC Radio Oxford recognizes this initiative is a great bonus for the young reporters. Big up to Children's Radio Foundation.

The other day, I was watching a segment on the program NBC Nightly News in which a journalist was speaking with young Syrian children. I was astonished for two reasons: first, they spoke English at a higher caliber than most natives of my own country and carried themselves with such poise greatly unexpected from children of their age; second, they spoke of the war and the concept of death as if it were mundane, something to which they were obligated to acclimatize themselves. It fr...

I have been on a journey this year and I have been able to share my experiences with the VOY community. Discovering VOY was the best one this year! I have finally been able to share my thoughts with likeminded people and connect with people my age around the world who care about the same issues I care about and take an interest in. This is a community I love being be part of! The earlier part of 2013 VOY became an escapism because I was able to put across a side of me who my frie...
