After a very long time, I finally have a post to write! Forgive me this post will be personal but it is something I have waited to share :) For the past few months I have been planning something I have always wanted (probably just as much as going to university!). I have always wanted to visit ‘home’. But before I go on, it would be appropriate for me to share with you that I am half Nigerian. After many years of wishing to go to Nigeria, this past month it finally ca...

I have been on holiday now for 4 months, I have been working in a nursery. Like most places, no one person is the same! Especially the languages they speak. The nursery I work in is very diverse! Staff and children alike are from South America to Asia! I have loved it! I feel like a child who has been given their favourite toy! I decided to learn a few phrases from the Arabic, French, Urdu, Latin and Hebrew language. I have square eyes from being in front of the computer learni...

If I was at the Girl Summit these would be my suggestions: I would suggest that countries who wish to end FGM and Child Marriage that they work in partnership with other countries in offering solutions. For example the battle of child marriage being in some cases, girls are married because they provide an economic gain for the family, also receive protection being married in some cultures. Education is also a vital need, not as in holding a degree or PhD, but in educating abo...

First of all hello VOY I am happy to be writing again :D Yesterday I was watching Bloomberg and a special edition documentary TV show. It was about a Nigerian banker. His name is Tony Elumelu, he is the chairman of a bank in Nigeria and he also spoke for the duration of the documentary about his vision for continent Africa. He is a Nigerian born and raised, he went abroad to complete his final years of schooling and now has returned home. I lost interest after a point because...

Before I begun my day, on impulse I checked twitter. I saw a tweet from VOY that said If you only read one thing today, make sure it is this: http://t.co/nzUkgvAZBS">http://t.co/nzUkgvAZBS">http://t.co/nzUkgvAZBS - a testimony from a 12 yr old from South Sudan. — Voices of Youth (@voicesofyouth), June 19, 2014 So I clicked the link to read the story, a horror story from a 12 year old caught up in two worlds. The story really hit my soul. What makes this w...

Nigeria was among the countries with worst education indicators globally.

So I saw this tweet that UN Education Report ‏@EFAReport had posted this morning and I read the article. I read it again and then paused for a moment of thought. The Nigerian students that I have come across have appeared to be rather studious. Seeing this article I now understand why. Education is much more of a bigger picture. So after reading this I have a few questions. 1) Why is it like this? 2) What has gone wrong over the past few decades? 3) What improvements...

I found this music video and listened to it a few times and it just made me think. Many people in the world have identified the power and success women and girls and more continue to support women and girls rights. As much as I do not understand the words, but the song clearly has a happy message! We are strong :) ~ Women and girls, hear this and remember. We are strong, together we stand united. For education and other rights we will protest peacefully and use our soft...

So after browsing through the online world of YouTube I stumbled across a tag video titled ‘GIRL POWER TAG’ by BubzBeauty. I watched this video and the three questions that captured my attention the most were: 1-What is the best advice you can to girls who want to be powerful? 2-If you had any superpower what would it be and how would you use it? 3-What upcoming person is powerful and why? So I’ve decided to answer them myself :) 1-The best advice I can g...
