The documentary took home the 2012 UNICEF Prize at the Prix Jeunesse International Festival in Germany.
The documentary won the prize for addressing “the complex issues that arise when traditional culture is faced with modern development and how that affects young people and their future.” Filmed in northern Bhutan, the documentary not only highlights children’s right to education, but also presents young people themselves trying to affect change for the youth around them.
UNICEF programme started in Bhutan in 1974 with support to the Rural Water Supply Scheme. Over the years, UNICEF has expanded its support to the Royal Government and its partners to improve the lives of children, youth and women in Bhutan based on the core principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
