Conflicts Go On
These are trying time for the world's children and young people. So many conflicts are simultaniously going on around the planet that it's hard to keep track of everything that is happening. Bahrain authoroties keep arresting protesters, today Navi Pillay, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights voiced concern about their detention. Ceasefire is as out of reach in Libya as at the start of the UN-sanctioned air raids and there is now disagreement over the issue at the Security Council. China and Russia are worried about the rising number of civilian casualties in Lybia. At the same time UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called on President Bashar al-Assad to end a six-week crackdown on opposition that resulted in at least 3,000 detainees. Of course in all of these situations children are subject to great risks. What can be done to protect them?
