Why youth participation matters

The silouettes of a group of young people, the sky turning dark behind them.

In every country across the world, decisions are being made every day. As young people, we are used to hearing about these decisions, but are we used to participating? For most of us, the answer would be no. Yet I do not think this is due to a lack of interest, but rather a lack of opportunity.

The potential of what young people can offer is unlimited. This rising generation is made up of innovators, problem solvers, and leaders who are willing to offer solutions to the most pressing issues.

It is important for platforms to be created for young people, to widen opportunities for impact. Young people have the tools and knowledge to come up with solutions that can address issues such as climate change, lack of social mobility, education reform, and so forth.

My hope is that soon more and more platforms for young people will be created, particularly in places where important decisions are being made.
