I wrote a poem (Quoted At Bottom) talking about my beliefs about 2020. I wrote it on New Years Eve, just a few hours before midnight. Looking back at it now during this pandemic, there is a lot we can look at and reflect on, so let's break it down and see what we can find out.

"2020 A year where voices are silenced no longer, For an alarm clock is never silenced." When we first hear about  an issue that can spread and wreak havoc, we must sound the alarm to the world. We cannot stand there and watch our world fall apart. Looking at this now, we learn the fault that we made by not listening to the early alarms of the Coronavirus. By not listening, this virus was allowed to run ramped and bring terror and suffering across the globe.

"We will pay attention to the worries of the world, or else we are upon a day of reckoning." People were worried that this virus would have an outbreak, and people didn't listen... leadership didn't listen, and then it happened. We waited until the virus came home to even start sounding the alarm.

"The youth will not sit in a soundproof booth, for no one can silence the future." We are the youth of this world and we are the future of this world. We cannot just be bystanders to our rapidly changing world, we need to be the up standers who help stand up against injustice and be the change that this world so desperately needs.

The next bit I want to look at is "America shall hold it’s arms open, with open hands of love". Now this doesn't have to just apply to America, but it should apply to the whole world. We are all family, and we must take care of each other. A pandemic like the Coronavirus should not be just seen as one nations effort, but a global effort to overcome this crisis.

Lastly we have "We open our arms to those in need, for we stand together. United as a country, reclaiming its dignity." This Country I mention we can vision as our world. We must help each other out and come together as  a world to work towards a greater future. We may have had fault in the past, but now more than ever we can change the unwritten history of our future.

"We are the youth of this world, and we are the future of this world"

-Matthew S.

2020

A year where voices are silenced no longer,
For an alarm clock is never silenced.
We will pay attention to the worries of the world,
or else we are upon a day of reckoning.

The youth will not sit in a soundproof booth,
for no one can silence the future.

America will reopen the gates,
that were ignorantly closed after great debate.
America shall hold it’s arms open,
with open hands of love

We open our arms to those in need,
for we stand together.
United as a country,
reclaiming its dignity.
