Education

Education is a source of hope and the most profitable investment for tomorrow, simply meaning a better future for all. So education is not a luxury, but a basic need in contemporary life, a human right and not a grant.

The benefits of education not only affects individuals, but also spills over its to society, such as creating an innovative culture, building peace and attaining prosperity and development.

Many political leaders talk about how to carry out an economic development, target rapid growth rates, increase per capita income, adopt a civilized culture and improve social conditions etc. But I believe there is only a few that concentrate on pre-conditions of the development process -what I mean is- evolving the awareness of people who will promote society and the achievement of development. But the significant note here is that awareness doesn't come from a vacuum, it comes from building a strong educational system, that serves the developmental process.

I believe there is no way to achieve economic development without investing in human capital, which includes a social security system, health care, and an educational system to give people the knowledge, skills, experience, intelligence, and wisdom to support the developmental process.

From an economic perspective, investing in education is better for an economy than other fields, according to a study from the University of Massachusetts published in 2011 that examined public spending in different sectors and their effect on employment rates within the U.S. economy. The study showed that the results of devoting 1 billion US dollars in different sectors, like military, education, health care, etc. The study concluded that expenditure in education creates more jobs than military spending.

Education not only relates to economic issues- which treat youth as a capital- but also social issues that make people's lives better. In another approach, education is a human right, and our duty as youth is to make people aware that education is their own right, and eradicate misperceptions that education is a gift granted from the national government.

And the role of state is to destroy all barriers between its citizens and education, according to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) article 26 that "Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages"

Also education is supposed to adopt a set of values for children to serve humanity according to article 26. Education should develop "the human personality and the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms." And "It shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and shall further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace".

Also the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (1966) endorses the right of education for people, but in more details, in article 13 covenant recognizes "the right of everyone to education" and regards it as "the sense of human dignity".

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) target 4 seeks for "Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all".

The struggle for "education for all people" isn't easy as many perceive. The struggle takes centuries, While only 12% of the people in the world could read and write in 1820, today the share has reversed: only 17% of the world population remains illiterate. Still we need to continue the mission to eradicate illiteracy.

But education is not just reading and writing. It is about using education for leading your own life, independently of others. Learning is a continuous process, ending in the death and beginning at birth.

In the era of "power of knowledge", it is not acceptable for people to still suffer from illiteracy or lack easy accessibility for learning. Education is the spirit of the world, providing us better opportunities in life that secure a better future and help us achieve well-being.
