Self love campaigns

and you will.

I missed this place so much, and it's been so long since I've written a post, and even though I used to come, read, and comment, this feeling of typing your thoughts in a post is so refreshing. I have been writing a lot lately - drafts, law articles and doing some projects, and also taking this break to recharge a bit.

College is back in full swing, and every time we talk about college, or schools, there is this issue called bullying, which sticks to our skins, and accompanies us everywhere. Bullies, labels, bringing other people down, and throwing insecurities on people – it's like a never ending story.

Last year, me and my friend Destiny, penned down a post on self-acceptance. This year, I have been working with a lot of youth and I realize that society has destroyed the concept of self-love and there is a link between bullying and self-love.

Bullying campaigns are on rise - and I totally advocate that. They have been efficient so far, but I think that if we could have self-love campaigns on the side, it would work wonders.

I was reading Twitter comments this week, for World Suicide Prevention Day, and it is obvious that our greatest bully is ourselves. We are so harsh on ourselves, and external bullies act as catalysts only, the real power to build or destroy lies within us.

The media and society have made self-love sound like 'self-obsessed, overconfident, arrogant, and self-centered' which is not the case. Self-love is when you love yourself with all your qualities and flaws and work on yourself, to improve your flaws, and be a better person. It is important, to practice self-love, and this is the first step towards self-acceptance. If someone is always bitter, and hates themselves, then how can that empty person spread love around and love others?

We can write long essays on self-love but in reality, how many people love who they are? You just have to ask 10 people of your life, 5 male and 5 female and ask them about it, and you will see shocking results. In this glamorous 21th century, which is fast-paced, we are not taught how to love ourselves, and this is problematic because this is taking away, all the energy and happiness out of our youth.

Only self-love can kill the bully inside us that lives inside our heads and acts destructively. Self-love campaigns are therefore equally important as bullying campaigns, and I hope that we need to have more of these in schools and universities. In the meanwhile, when you wake up, and look in the mirror to get ready, practice healthy self-love, have a gratitude journal, tell yourself that you will work on your imperfections but accept them first, and acknowledge that they are a part of you.

With Love, and Light

“When you adopt the viewpoint that there is nothing that exists that is not part of you, that there is no one who exists who is not part of you, that any judgment you make is self-judgment, that any criticism you level is self-criticism, you will wisely extend to yourself an unconditional love that will be the light of the world.”– Harry Palmer

In case no one told you today (including you), let me remind you that you are beautiful, strong, and brave enough to shake hands with your dreams.
