#IllustrationsForPeace: A global activation of artists for peace

War is always a tragedy, wherever it happens. The events in Ukraine have once again shown the world that violence and destruction should never take place, and that wherever we are, we should raise our voices to demand peace. Ukraine is only the latest example of a long list of conflicts and wars – a list that unfortunately keeps getting longer and longer.

We will not stand in silence while people continue to lose their homes and their loved ones to violence. Today, we raise our voices, our pens, and our brushes to show solidarity with those affected by war, no matter where they are.

UNICEF and Voices of Youth are launching a challenge for all young peace advocates to use their art to fight these injustices, spreading a positive message of peace, solidarity, and hope through their work.

By submitting your art, you will join a global #IllustrationsForPeace activation demanding an end to wars and conflicts everywhere.

How do I participate?

Joining the activation is simple. You need to simply create an original illustration or use one you have already made in the past. You can post it on Instagram with the hashtag #IllustrationsForPeace and tag @voicesofyouth.

We only have four rules:

Rule 1: You must be 24 years old or younger.

Rule 2: The illustration you submit needs to be an original work you have made and cannot be something made by someone else.

Rule 3: Your illustration needs to carry a message of peace, hope, and solidarity.

Rule 4: To be considered, all original illustrations will have to be posted to Instagram using the hashtag #IllustrationsForPeace and tagging @voicesofyouth. If you’re not active on social media, you can submit your illustration via the Voices of Youth website.

Each week, for a total of 6 weeks, we will select the illustrations with the most powerful messages to feature on the Voices of Youth and UNICEF accounts, both on Instagram and on Facebook and Twitter, giving them global exposure through accounts with million followers. In addition, the selected illustrations will also be featured on a permanent gallery on the Voices of Youth website.

All illustrations must be submitted by June 7th.

Use of the illustrations

We would love to be able to continue to use your illustrations even after the challenge ends. By submitting, you will agree to grant UNICEF and Voices of Youth a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, edit, and adapt your illustration, as well as to disseminate and display it publicly. We will credit you whenever possible. If you do not agree to these terms, please let us know, and the same goes for if you do agree, but then you change your mind.
