A beautiful world without discrimination (World Children's Day 2020)
I am Syeda Sabiqun Nahar from Bangladesh. I dream of a world where 'discrimination' is no longer present among us, rather, it would just become a term coined in our least liked part of the history. I hope to see a world where people from around the globe irrespective of their gender, class, creed and preferences join forces to provide a greener and safer environment for their children. I wish to live in a world where women and children are stronger and safe with the support of their family. And underneath the masks we're wearing today, may everyone's smiles remain unscathed. #voicesofyouth
Bangla New Year!
Bangla New Year's, popularly called Pohela Boishakh is the first day of the Bengali calendar, just as the 1st of January is the first day of the year in the Gregorian calendar. Pohela Boishakh is celebrated every year on the 14th of April and is a national holiday in Bangladesh and some parts of India. The greeting for the occasion is Shubho Noboborsho (শুভ নববর্ষ), meaning Happy New Year! Pohela Boishakh is celebrated since the time of Emperor Akbar, hundreds of years ago, when he introduced the Bengali calendar. The festival is celebrated by Bangaldeshis with a riot of colors, from the...
Seeing lockdown through introvert eyes
If someone asks me, "How is the time of lockdown in your eyes?" I then remember one of my favorite people who said, "It's a precious time. Unwanted, but welcome." I believe most readers are frowning, "What does this girl say? We're getting bored of sitting at home, going crazy with depression and frustration, and she thinks it's a good time?" Then if I say more, lockdown would rather saved me from depression, how would you react? The thing is : introverts see the world in a different way which the extroverts cannot understand. I want the world to know how introverts see the world. The school...
Pathway to happiness
Three things that have changed my life forever. One: Loving myself Two: Hope Three: Positive thinking
The lessons we learn outside classroom
School, classrooms, textbooks - all are produced for education. But the fact is, they cannot provide us the real education. Rather, what we really learn is from outside of textbooks. We learn from our inside, our life, our family, the outside world, even storybooks and movies. I can give you some first hand example about it. Do you know how I learned communicative English? My textbooks and teachers weren’t able to teach me communicative English. I did well in the examination, but I didn’t have the courage to read and write English. My fear about English language started to decrease by sending...
Dream captures his last breath
I approached him after an hour of sitting without revealing a word. His features told me a lot, he is not good. I went up to him and asked, "Are you okay?" Oh thank God I asked. He was a bomb that only needed a little pressure to explode, but with our conversation, I relaxed him a bit. He told me a story that made me apprehensive and angry, but he told me that he still had some time to turn it into a success story. My conversation with this young man lasted for more than two hours. I felt when he spoke every letter he uttered took from his soul a little because of his pain and his sorrow for...
The light inside of us
I was the kind of person who was dependent on others for even trivial issues. I always walked towards my path depending on others, and always blindly listened to other's opinions. Other's opinions and criticism affected me very much. I cared about what others said too much and my thoughts were automatically surpassed. Not only that. I was dependent on others for being loved, being helped, being consoled, being cared. I didn’t know how powerful I was. I didn’t know about the light inside of me. I thought that I always needed other people to guide me. I didn’t know my own existence can make a...
Let's become simple
Sometimes I think that our generation is so complicated compared with previous generations. Especially the children and teens. What a complicated life we lead! I don’t know about other countries, but in my country, the previous generation had a less complicated childhood. In my eyes. Often my parents tell me the stories of their childhood. The children of that generation climbed trees, played a lot of outdoor games which are unfamiliar for us now, laughed with their cousins and friends, fought with others, got wet in rain, covered with mud and sand, stole fruits and often got punished by their...
My dear expecting future days and myself
My dear expecting future days and myself I don't know that how do I start? But first I want to give a big thanks to my god for giving me a beautiful life. Now, first is that what is my expecting future? So my answer is that I want to do something different on this world. I know that it is very hard to do. But I want to do something different because I want to prove myself that I can do anything best to those people who think that I cann't do anything. As a girl it is very unexpected to me that a number of people of our society think that boys are better than girls. But now the world is...
How true love begins with loving yourself
When I first heard about LOVE MYSELF, I also learned that it supports #ENDViolence campaign, I wondered why. How loving myself can end violence? I realized it later. After experiencing it from deep inside. The campaign actually tells about two concepts. First one : "Love yourself". Second one : " Share love". One is related to another. How? If you start loving yourself, you will learn to accept your flaws, your mistakes. You will learn to be kind. You will learn to forgive yourself. And when you will practice it everyday, you will be able to accept other's mistakes too. You will be able to be...
Never let them take you down
"I am a worthless person. " "I am ugly. " "I am a stupid one." "I am good for nothing. " "I am not worthy of love. " "Who am I? I am nobody." "I am always wrong." Sometimes, people around us make us feel like this, by their words or actions. Sometimes they pointlessly criticize us and break us. Now think, when someone criticizes you destructively, what do you do? If you tell yourself these words, then are you different than the ones who hurt you? Aren't you hurting you even more? Instead, you shouldn’t give up on yourself. You should try to console yourself, give yourself a warm hug and tell,...
Seven billion stars
Everyone has a wish to be a star. Or someone special. When you see someone special in your eyes, in your subconscious mind you wish to be someone special too, don't you? But you know what.... You are already a star. You can be a star that can enlighten everyone around you, and even the world. How?
My first working place : Voices of Youth
To be honest, I didn’t have a plan to join a community or publish my writings. I didn’t know how it would be like to join a group of people who share same thoughts. I didn’t join Voices of Youth with a plan. But it has changed my life. Young people who write in Voices of Youth have interest in different topics. Different issues. And they are all different. It’s like a school where everyone works on their own subject. But we do it passionately. And that's why we can make a difference. Because in this place whatever we do comes from the bottom of our hearts. I never knew that writing was my...
Return to love
I believe in love. We are told to be selfless, we are told that we should be there for each other, help and care for them. It’s possible with love. When we love someone, we can be selfless without making any effort to do so. We can genuinely care for someone only if we love them. We become selfish and self-centred when love is absent. A mother risks her entire life when giving birth to her child. Why does she do that? She does because she loves her unborn child. She loves her child even when it isn’t born. Parents raise their child with unconditional love. We are told to accept each other with...
Respect young people
Yesterday, one of my Bengali literature teachers said something that left a mark in my heart, and I couldn’t agree more. He said that adults choose the safe side, when young people want the justice. I will add some more to his statement. Adults don’t want to take risks, but young people aren’t afraid to take risks and they want to experiment. That's why young people find ways in times when adults don’t. Young people lack maturity and sometimes judgement. Adults must guide them and teach them. They need to correct their mistakes. Young people need their supervision. But, adults try to control...
Let's celebrate International Mother Language Day
Today is International Mother Language Day, one of my favourite days to celebrate. Though now it’s an international day, the origin of celebrating the day is our country – Bangladesh. As a Bangladeshi, I have grown up reading the bloody history of the 21st February, 1952. At a young age those historical events didn’t touch my heart. History is something I don’t really like, and as I say to myself, everything becomes a bad thing when it gets into academic textbooks. So, the history didn’t really reach my heart. One day I was given a book to read. It was a historical novel. At first I didn’t...
The power of kind words in creative works
People who do creative works such as writing, singing, painting and so on, are largely dependent on reception of their works, people's reactions to their works. Sometimes, based on this reception they decide whether they should go on or quit. Of course, creative workers mainly do their works out of their passion, but criticism contributes a lot. Appreciation is a force that encourages a person to keep going with their works. On the other hand, hate comments can make a person give up. I have started to realize the power of kind words after starting to write. I see how a little touch of...
Looking at the sky
When I become bored of staying in my room and find nothing to do, I go to my balcony and look at the sky. Most of the time I look at the sky in the evening. When the sun starts to go down. And when I look at sky, I feel a sense of purity, serenity. The wide sky and the breeze reach deep inside of me and make me feel happy. The feeling is really breathtaking. The wideness of the sky, the serenity reaches into my heart. The evening sky has different colours each day. Most of the time it is sky blue, and the blue clouds. Sometimes it becomes yellow. Sometimes pink, red, or purple. Sometimes gray...
