The new virus

July 1, 2020
Human Rights

It is impressive how 2020 can still manage to qualify as one of the craziest years of my life. I know maybe my life has not been that broad, but I can assure you this year will forever remain in my memory. There is no doubt these are difficult times for humanity’s future, everyone’s lives turned upside down abruptly, and to be honest a spark of hope was created when hundreds of governments united to fight the common enemy, a disease. Any type of change is considered scary, but as a society we managed to stay together and tackle our global challenges. Now everyone’s reality has changed again. I...

Can you hear me? Femicides in Mexico and Treatment of Women

July 16, 2020
Human Rights

Please stop, when is it going to be enough? How many lives have to be taken away for this to stop? In Mexico 10 women die every day because of their gender and 1 out of them is a child. We walk on blood and we are surrounded by the lost souls from women that have been brutally killed. Women that travel by public transportation get harassed, men ejaculate on their shoulders, they rip their underwear off, between others. We have different wagons for women to have a safe space, but plenty of men do not care and they come into the wagon and this systematic harassment happens every day. When can...

Racism in Mexico

June 10, 2020
Human Rights

The last few days I have been really shocked by everything that has happened in the United States, and that is that while the world is facing the worst health crisis in recent decades, many other pandemics have been revealed such as domestic violence, poverty, inequality and in this case in particular: racism. That racism that caused many people protest and demand better living conditions in order to stop racism in the United States. However, I think it is important to emphasize that this is not unique to this country, but it is systematized and naturalized in Mexico and Latin America. In this...

Are human rights actually being respected?

August 22, 2019
Human Rights

Human rights are being violated all over the world. In fact, in 2010 Amnesty International reported cases of torture and restrictions on freedom of opinion in almost half of all countries. Imagine that not even the United Nations can interfere. People are being forced to flee their homes, the number of child soldiers is exorbitant, coercion is being used to accuse people of crimes they didn’t commit, feminicides and torture such as slaughter, burying people alive and poisoning are happening as minutes go by. Many of the people responsible for ensuring that human rights are respected, protected...

Mexico paving the way: The road to Feminist Foreign Policy

December 8, 2021
Human Rights

Mexico is the only Spanish-speaking country in all of Northern America. Mexico was first declared a sovereign country in the year 1810. Mexico finally gained its freedom after 300 hundred years of Spanish rule. Today when most people think of Mexico they typically think of telenovelas, food, beaches, art, and music. Yet, there is an important aspect of Mexico to discuss. Its Feminist Foreign Policy (FPP). Mexico’s Feminist Foreign Policy (FPP) was first introduced under the presidency of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who is the 65th president of Mexico. Mexico was the first Global South Country...
