How to strengthen your message with data

Leaders around the world make promises every day to turn the tide on the injustices in our society. They commit to changes for the fairer treatment of every child, be it the right to go to school or the right to a healthy childhood, by partaking in agreements like the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). But how do we hold leaders accountable for their promises? Are we on track to meet the SDGs? How do we know? Where can we look for evidence rather than just trusting words? Data can help. Data have great power: they tell us where we’ve started, how much we’ve achieved and how far we still...

How to write about disability rights

Human Rights
Many of us are interested in advocating for the rights of people with disabilities. But sometimes, even when we want to send a positive message, we don’t always use the rights terms. Voices of Youth and UNICEF asked three young disability advocates - Barbora, Keer, and Rolando - to put together a list of Dos and Don’ts for writing about issues of disability.

How to stay safe online

Innovation & technology
Don’t keep your fears to yourself. If you are worried about your safety or something that has happened to you online, urgently speak to an adult you trust. Visit Child Helpline International to find out the names and details of organizations in your country who can help you. Many countries have a special helpline you can call for free and talk to someone anonymously. Respect what other people are saying on social media, even if you do not agree with them. You have the right to privacy - and so do others. It is not okay to log into other people’s accounts or to use their phones or profiles...

Our Generation is Unlimited

Human Rights
There are 1.8 billion young people in the world. Imagine what our world could look like if every single one of us was supported and empowered to fulfil their potential? But right now far too many don’t get to realize their goals, or are unable to contribute to their communities. Globally, over 200 million adolescents are not in school; and many of those who are, feel like they are not learning the skills that they need. Millions are affected by poverty and violence, living their lives in fear. Too many feel like they don’t have a voice. We want to see a world where all young people feel...

What does a better Europe for children & youth look like?

Human Rights
Children and young people are one of the region’s greatest assets. But too often their voices go unheard or they are excluded from decisions that affect their lives. In March, the European Commission plans to launch the new European Union Strategy on the Rights of the Child 2021 – 2024. For this, decision-makers decided to set a new standard by inviting children and young people living in Europe and beyond to share their views and influence how the strategy would be shaped and what topics it should prioritize. To this end, consultations were launched that collected input from over 10,000...

How to do digital advocacy

Advocacy is an organized process of influencing people or institutions in order to achieve a stated positive change. Digital advocacy means the “process” is mostly digital, by using digital tools. Why it’s great: Accessible to anyone with access to the internet/mobile Can potentially reach many people Quick and cheap But let’s keep in mind: There is a lot of competition out there - how do you differentiate yourself? Platforms keep changing their algorithms - how can you keep reaching your audience? Not everyone has access to the internet - how do you include the unconnected? Depending on your...
