We heard it on news, Twas all over the headlines
An outbreak of a new virus,
Some were skeptical about it. Some said it won't come here,
But here we are, reality dawns on us.
Our Monday mornings are as Sunday nights,
Our streets are empty, our markets are deserted,
Our offices are locked, our businesses are closed,
The Economy is falling.
New year resolutions unkept,
"2020 dreams" staring at us in the face,
There is nothing we can do about it
Reality has dawned on us, things are not in the manner which we planned.
The numbers are rising, the death toll rises,
All over the world thousands die daily,
Our doctors and nurses are overwhelmed with work,
Our doctors and nurses are at the risks of being infected.
First thing you hear in the morning is the news from a neighbor's radio
And not the usual morning prayers from the nearby church,
However, the news we hear grips us with fear and worries
Reminding us of how long we have to stay indoors.
We are in our homes, though bored we can't go out,
Cash is running out, or meals are decreasing,
Our cathedrals are empty, we worship in our homes
We celebrate Easter behind our walls.
It even becomes worse,
People begin to steal from one another,
Hunger virus tends to be worse than the new virus,
The prevention proves worse than the virus.
As we hear the "news updates",
It grips us with fear and worries,
Our people have resorted to praying it comes to an end soon,
That this pandemic would become a thing of the past.
But my greatest fear is what will become of us after this pandemic ends.
Things will obviously not remain the way it used to.
The new virus has caused a lot of damage.
The new virus crawls around like a snail,
But is as dangerous in it's effect as the cobra.
When it eventually ends,
This time will always be remembered,
A time when the nations of the world combat the same virus,
Scientists all over busy finding a cure,
Millions of people have been tested all over,
Hundreds of thousands of people have been tested positive,
Tourism and travels have reduced drastically.
I pray this pandemic comes to an end.
