How Health Tech is Empowering The Next Generation
Advances in healthcare technology in recent years have lessened the health disparities that diverse populations face. Already, telehealth — which patients are utilizing 38 times more than before the pandemic — has helped people in rural areas and diverse populations access much-needed healthcare services at lower costs. As the industry evolves, health tech will offer more benefits than improving access to providers. It can also empower underserved communities and individuals to understand and advocate for their own healthcare. This way, they can receive the treatment they need and the care...
Women need the rights of life
We do so much on this planet. We change the world on a daily basis. We deserve to right to live. We deserve the same rights as every other man. We have been the background for far too long. It's time for us to become the front page. When people think girl they think pretty face, quiet, polite, and so many other things. No. We are so much more than a pretty face. A girl is someone who makes their voice heard. Who speaks her mind. We have been through so much just to get to this point and we aren't done, we need to fight for the right to live. The right to live is something every human being...
Unspoken Carbon Time Machine Threatens to Create a Climate Change Crisis
I come from officially the world's coldest city with over 10,000 population - Yakutsk. Sometimes, in winter, the temperatures here drop below −60°C (−76 °F). Located in East Siberia, Yakutsk is the capital city of the Sakha Yakutia Republic, which would be the world’s eighth-largest country if it were independent, according to The New York Times.
Drawing and painting
To me, art is a way for me to relax and feel at peace with myself. Even when I was younger, drawing was a way for me to feel better about anything and everything. I have been drawing since I was at least 5 years old. My mom used to let me draw on the walls because she knew I liked drawing at that age. Now, I’m a little older and drawing is still a big part of my life. Without drawing and painting, I would be sad all the time because I wouldn’t have a way to feel better about myself. When I paint or draw, it’s like a way for my to express my feelings and thoughts on the daily.
They Say "Inclusivity"
They say “inclusivity,” But only if you fit their criteria critically. They say “positivity,” But only if you act in passivity. You can’t be too dark, or else they won’t have your tone. You can’t be too pale, or else they’ll think you’re a ghost. You can’t be too tall, or else they won’t have your clothing size. You can’t be too short, or else you’re too small and not suitable for society’s eyes. Your eyes can’t be too slanted, or else they’ll think you won’t be able to see. Your hair can’t be too curly, or else they’ll think that you are messy. Your skin can’t be too textured, or else they’ll...
Breath, Breath
Whenever my online classes end, so do human lives. They cry in languageless agony. But thousands of miles away, I’m deaf. The news is my hearing aid. Maybe the news glitched, because it’s on a loop: COVID-19. COVID. The virus which won’t be named. The fancy-sounding variants. India. I scroll through before crashing into paywalls. But the little snippet reads about overfilled hospitals. Crowds. Infection Rates. Rampant spread. Flip to another story; it's still there. I’ll read about the horrors: their frail hands clasping each other with a vicious panic. The colorful saris and kurtas fall prey...
Let Eco-friendly Habits Circle the World
There are several habits you can learn to help protect the environment. The ones depicted in this image are avoiding plastic straws, bottles, and bags, recycling glass and newspapers, donating reusable items instead of throwing them away, and riding a bike rather than taking a car.
Women in Society
Everyone knows that all over the world, women are still not treated as equals. My drawing shows girls being controlled by toxic masculinity, misogyny, and gender stereotypes in modern society. It also shows some things most, if not all girls were told at a young age that actually promotes misogyny and sexism. You can find that misogyny is rooted in almost everything, from casual sayings to human safety. For example, dummies that are used for crash tests in cars are built like men, which increases the risk of women getting more hurt than men in car accidents. Right now, the world is built for a...
My dream
My dream has always been to be a nurse. I want to help people and I want to show people I care. Nurses are always helpful. While others may not care about their job and just want to earn money, I want to help, not just focus on the money, the amount I’m making, or anything materialistic. I want to be there to listen to people, take care of them, help them with anything and be there to make sure they are okay. On the other hand, nurses also work long hours away from their families. They are asked to do tasks that most people in the world won’t want to do. Sometimes they deal with patients with...
Dear Me,
From self-reflecting to self-respecting...Being young and having to grow up mentally, physically, and emotionally all by yourself takes a toll on many aspects of life. Why can’t I play like those other kids? Why can’t I take a break on reality and imagine a land where everything is nice? It brings many wounded memories and many lost dreams. Many covered scars, pushed in the back of my own head for security... I shouldn’t be scared, I shouldn’t feel the need to protect myself with a wall built up. I shouldn’t have to be so misguided, and lost...but it’s only because I’m young and the world...
Only Humans
only humans can take their home and destroy its health instead they put above their own efficiency and wealth they take what was given to them filled with beauty and destroy it without a grain of integrity now they pay for as it dies so will they no place to call home, nowhere to stay their one chance taken and gone only they are selfish enough to drag others along only humans can define one by their birth traits their gender or race shall now set their life in place their genes given at birth represent their rights for not being a man makes life an endless fight and don’t forget the unequal...
A lovely pink flower
A lovely pink flower Carried by the wind With beauty as its power No one knows where it’s been Its endured countless showers Blown through storms upwind Burned in the sun for hours Happiness it can only imagine It only sees its errors Satisfaction paper thin Yet others see what lies above rather than lying within So a lovely pink flower is where its story begins and a lovely pink flower it will remain till its dusk has risen
Why do some people not see Animal Ethics as an Important Issue?
In America for issues such as gender, racial, and identity inequalities, it is generally accepted that everyone move towards the same consensus which grants equal rights for everyone. This makes sense as we all bleed the same blood and no one is superior to another just because of their genes. If someone doesn’t believe in the equality of all humans, they are instantly ostracized as it is considered to be humane and caring to treat all as equals. In order to be a good human and not be selfish, they must follow the same beliefs that all races, genders, identities, abilities, etc. are equal, and...
Why should youth be allowed to influence our government?
Nowadays, it’s hard for youth to even be taken seriously in a conversation with someone older than them due to their age. However, us youths haven’t let this stop us as many are starting nonprofits, blogs, sending letters to their local, state, and federal governments on unjust laws, holding protests, and speaking up about equality. It didn’t take long before many states started including youth councils, but still, youths don’t have much representation in their government. This may be due to the fact that we haven’t fully matured yet so people may not trust our decisions and believe they are...
Should guns be banned?
Nowadays, it is nearly impossible for a year to go by without a school shooting taking place in the USA. A school shooting- the place which should be reserved for education and knowledge- yet we now have to go through drills and be taught what to do in case a shooter came to our school. Why should we be so worried about being killed when we go somewhere to learn and expand what we know? What is the government’s response to this? They’ve barely made any changes to gun control laws, even after the March4OurLives protest and yearly killings. Instead, the Trump Administration’s suggestion was to...
Creating a Future We Want to Live In
Being apart of Generation Z, I'm living in the most exciting time in history. Our computers are as smart as ever, we understand life like never before, we're developing at an exponential rate, and we've developed new ways of thinking and are capable of doing nearly anything with the wealth of technology that's now available to us. Technology is no longer a novelty, but now a superpower that 5B people and climbing have the opportunity to leverage. I feel privileged to be one of those people, especially as a young person. I'm Okezue, a technology developer and science researcher looking to...
How does veganism have to do with our morals
Veganism is a controversial topic, between non-vegans and vegans alike. While vegans don’t see any issue with talking about their experience and pointing out the faults in eating meat, those who eat meat tend to not like this. As a vegan, we can educate people, teach them what they can do to be more ethical and how animals are harmed, but we can’t force them. Morals are completely subjective, and it’s incredibly hard to change morals. For people like me and others who are vegan, we see it as immoral to eat animals or torture and abuse them. However, many don’t see it as immoral to eat animals...
Shots
One shot, two shots, down We trusted you with our lives You’re meant to be our relief Supposed to keep us safe Yet we lay lifeless on the ground Our families only left with their cries Who do we trust now? Who do we call out for help? When our very own saviors are the causes of our deaths Why is it always the ones with more melanin who can’t walk away alive in any situation? Shoot, why is that the first thing that comes to mind? A few seconds of choice affect the rest of anothers lives Forever a hole gapes in their heart From where the bullet killed their loved one Our police, our lawsetters...
The normality of mental health in graduate school
Graduate School should be hard, but not impossible. Graduate school should help you develop professionally, without losing your personal life. Graduate school should challenge you without taking a toll on your mental health. Graduate school should encourage you to be creative, not force you to prove that you are worthy of being there. Because you know what? You are more than worthy. You should embrace who you are and where you come from. Coming from the small island of Puerto Rico, an island which sometimes you cannot even find on a map, I often feel lost in this big escape of being in...
