Safer Internet Day 2020: replace hate with kindness online
We live in fear
You would think that after 9 years of war, you'd be accustomed to bombs and bullets, but that's never true. Every bomb kills a part of you that you never thought would die, every bullet goes through your heart and never truly leaves. The pain and anguish goes deeper with each heart beat, and there's nothing left for you but to pray for any higher power to end this misery in anyway possible.
Peace Interrupted
Marking International Poetry Day (21 March 2020), a group of young poets and Voices of Youth contributors write about the power of peace. Their poems are a cry to end violence against children, and a message of support to the children and youth affected by conflict. Annie is a Voices of Youth blogger from South Africa. She wants a better future for children across the globe and for their voices to be heard. You can read her content here. I need not know what death feels like to understand the pain of all the widows and orphaned children who lost their fathers in vain. The sobbing of the broken...
Misinformation - Deadlier than the Coronavirus
There is no doubt that COVID 19 has come as a surprise to us all. People have chosen to react to it in several different ways. It is expected that by now the average person has chosen to start keeping a small stock of medical and food supplies and become very aware of the situation in their community, whilst trying to remain calm. They have also started limiting the number of journeys outside their house, and is also continuing to thoroughly wash their hands whilst avoiding to touch their face. However, there are some people who have been taking draconian measures that reflect their unrequired...

How Generation Z Will Change the Business World
By all accounts, the business landscape is evolving at breakneck speed, and young people are helping to fuel that rapid change. Generation Z, in particular, is poised to change the business world in a number of ways. For starters, young people are drawn to gig work, with more than half of Gen Zers reporting that they would choose full-time gigs over a traditional job. For Gen Z, gig work is appealing for various reasons, including schedule flexibility and the opportunity to be their own boss. The gig economy also negates the need for in-person interviews, which may be awkward for introverts or...
Yemen: The World’s Largest Humanitarian Crisis
War is more than the upfront violence seen. War is deeper than a simple disagreement. War is brutal. For years now, Yemen has suffered from an extremely violent civil war with significant foreign involvement. While this conflict is essentially one regarding the government within Yemen, it has had tremendous effects on all aspects of life. Fighting has denied Yemenis some of their most basic rights as humans. Some of which includes and has resulted in: children being denied a proper education due to school closers, families being internally displaced, and malnutrition plaguing a significant...
Pain and sorrow
Oh dear, I am a homeless I am a victim of authority who is reckless The war had me hopeless It made my life a full darkness How dare humans who dont feel on us Instead they raise weapons on us My dear, my eyes are full with tears I need a one with whom I can share my worries Mom died and Dad with my hand was buried Still I am a child and I need them But who could explain this to those people with fierceness Is our life to that extent cheap Or are their hearts with violence fed Griefness, Sorrowness and oppressiveness In these three word my life is expressed
The Refugee crisis: why should you care?
Throughout history, the word refugee has been associated with the term refuge, which is a safe shelter that a person resides in search of protection. Today, a refugee is defined as a person who has been forced to leave his home country due to war, violence, or fear of prosecution as a result of certain ideas and beliefs, race, religion, sectarianism, nationality, or political opinion. The above definition was what I found on the internet. But, what the internet does not mention is that a refugee is someone who struggles every day to find something to eat, to find somewhere safe to stay, to...
Platforms For Good (The Fight Against Misinformation)
Before I share with you this information, I have one question, how did you find this article? This is a rhetorical question in the sense that I don't want an answer, but this can lead to great discussion. You could have found this through a direct source where the article was actually posted. You could have also found the article through indirect links where it has been shared via a weblink that directs you to one of these direct sources. Why is any of this important? This is important because it helps us understand the power of the media, and that is exactly what I want to discuss in this...
To the, Tunisian dreams, scraper… (part 3)
*** Far from remorses, from crime, from pain, Take me away, wagon, take me away, frigate, this sentence was familiar to me, a quote among the thorny flowers hurt me, but I didn't care anymore, and life didn't bother me. If before I stood in front of a window, now I was in total darkness. I was as white as Candide and my misdeeds were less, but yet I felt myself near the Styx marshland. When life no longer smiles, joy becomes unimaginable, the outcome was clear. If the shadow over the city was only a shadowy image, then my soul was no longer alive and so for the last time I gave my last breath...
The socio-economic impact of COVID-19 and its grip on us young people and children
“Poverty is when you don’t have any money. Because of a lack of money, children and us young people don’t have a chance to develop. We may not have a good profession or a good foundation for life.” This is how I describe the impact of poverty. Whether it’s the instant loss of income that so many parents face as a result of COVID-19 or the austerity measures that may follow, children and us young people are currently and will bear the brunt of this pandemic long after the virus itself has been eradicated. Projections change daily, with some predictions that the recession that follows COVID-19...
How to support a friend if you think they could be at risk of violence
Understanding the Problems America Faces is the Key to Solving Them
Once a year we get a physical with our local doctor to check up on our overall well being. Every four years we elect a leader to head our nation. When we run out of toilet paper we go to the local store and pick up some more. All of these things share a common denominator, that paired with collaborative fostering will be the key to attempting to solve the current societal issues. That common key factor is trust. We trust that our doctors will adequately give us care to the best of their abilities. We trust our officials to represent our various interests. We trust our stores to have toilet...
Physics: The Final Frontier
I used to look down upon my feet but now, my eyes are set to the stars. Explorers searched the known world across the history of mankind, hoping to find a new place in such a limited planet. It did not take long for me and other dreamers to search the stars for new worlds, allowing the cosmos to become our teacher. From the view of our ancestors, the final frontier of exploration was discovering new worlds on this planet with the aim to find a new place to call home. Today, scientists across the globe and those who wish to become these newfound explorers, such as I, have realized what truly is...
The Cheerharan
Sometime ago in the previous month, I was watching the ‘Draupadi Cheerharan scene’ from the epic Mahabharata. But my mind was somewhere else: why was someone not doing anything? Why did she receive silence when she pleaded in front of at least a hundred people? The culture has been in trend since so many centuries and is unfortunately being continued till now, till this date, till this very minute. Long story short, I want to say that students don’t get sex education in schools but gain access to free porn, it cripples their minds and they don’t understand how to deal with it. They start to...

3 ways to be kind online
Hate speech and mean comments seem to dominate the internet these days. Scroll through any Instagram or Twitter feed, YouTube comment section, or online forum, and you are bound to see people mocking others for their appearance, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, personal beliefs- really anything can become the unfair target of vile comments online. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Although hate comments are seemingly everywhere on the internet, they do not belong anywhere. Here is a list of some ways to be kind online to turn the internet into a safer and friendlier place for all. 1...
