He Regrets | A call to save our Earth
He looks out of the window and regrets his action, What he did, what humanity did for their own satisfaction. He survives on his last oxygen tank, Only has pollution to thank. Had he heard mother nature’s cry, He would have given sustainability and conservation a try. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle was the chant, He thought it was a rather bothering rant. Make it or break it, it’s your mother earth, He wishes upon a star, “Mother Earth, rebirth!”
Who will save the Arewa woman?
According to UNICEF, Northern Nigeria has a track record of high rates in child marriage, illiteracy, poverty and gender based violence. Although, advocacy against these issues have been propagated for a long time, improvement seems to move slowly in the region. For instance, a trend on twitter #ArewaMeToo was started to create awareness on the physical and emotional violence in northern Nigeria. The #ArewaMeToo gave people a medium to tweet their views and stories on domestic violence, sexual violence and molestation amongst other ill trends happening in northern Nigeria. From my personal...
The Near Future
Drifting into oblivion picturing a forest full of thickets green, olive, and mahogany branches with birds orchestrating their own symphony shrubs and vines twirling and fighting to see the light But all I see are columns of ashy smoke as far as the eye can see choking my throat and scorching my eyes with the only symphony heard is of the chaotic honking of cars and the only vines seen are of cables on the side of buildings It puts me in a state of despair thinking about how lovely the world might have been if it was cared for just as much as humankind cared about themselves
Let's Talk: Misinformation
Misinformation: Noun, "false or inaccurate information, especially that which is deliberately intended to deceive." Oxford Languages. Misinformation is essentially a virus, and it's everywhere today. A substantial majority of people in today's world overestimate their abilities to detect truth from falsehoods. The reason why this is important is that misinformation doesn't have to be just a tiny fib, it can be a targeted, blatant lie, which can put people's wellbeing in danger. It can additionally spread quickly and exponentially. If a person views an article or document that is misinformation...
Seek good news and paint the world with new colors
I think we're used to bad news. Everyday we’re told about the mistakes a government made, the violence of our society, tragedies and catastrophes. Scandals and commotion are prioritized over improvements of any kind. Those elements are essential because they’re part of our reality. Nevertheless, in my opinion, we’re being crowded with unhealthy negativism. I’m a great fan of “constructive criticism” because we have the right to express our thoughts but also the responsibility of asking ourselves “Is what I’m saying constructive or destructive?”. We’re responsible for what we tell and also for...
Rainy Summer
It’s April. School’s almost over and it’s summer when everyone goes to beaches and creates sandcastles. However, this year’s an exception. Aside from the pandemic happening, there are a lot of reasons why I and my family can’t seem to go and have fun on the beach. It’s because of the typhoon happening. I remember back when I was 8 years old, my family and I went to a lot of beaches and climbed mountains since it was summer break. The sun sparkled. It was the most beautiful sparkle I have ever seen. The sun hitting my skin didn't hurt a lot. It only hurt once I spent 5 straight hours straight...

Pixels shining, such salvation — a doom Wide-eyed people: a future of dreams Giants making greens Capital C, every season on bloom Three-eyed phone; a positive feat Hashtag burning trees Cancel them through tweets Renegade, dancing queen Another day, another dawn Another slowly poisoned land Time has come, everything’s gone; now we try to plant seeds in the sand Grinning faces, Somewhere in high places Clinking bottles, flashing lights Drowning cries, drowning cries One day the air will be poison, just like how we poisoned the air A girl pleading on screen Some old man asking her to chill A...
Young people need to be actors and not observers in the climate change arena
Taking the Stage at The Largest Technology Conference in The World
In November of 2021, I alongside my colleagues Taira Mehta and Anupra Chandran spoke at the largest innovation and technology event in the world, Web Summit. A few months before our presentation, we co-created a carbon capture project called Kaptis, which focuses on extracting carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and converting it into graphene. The number one thing we do right now after capturing CO2 is burying it into the ground and that isn't efficient, because there is no economic incentive, so we wanted to use carbon instead as a resource. Currently, carbon is being turned into many...
Climate Crisis 2022
Climate change has been a hot-button issue for years. Scientists have high confidence that global temperatures will continue to rise for decades to come, largely due to greenhouse gases produced by human activities. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which includes more than 1,300 scientists from the United States and other countries, forecasts a temperature rise of 2.5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit over the next century. Recently, in Los Angeles, scientists including Peter Kalmus, a NASA climate scientist with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, chained themselves to the JP Morgan...
Confusion
Confusion!!!! Confusion is only a sign that your mind is active and thinking, trying to figure out ways to bring something new out of you. Everyone goes through this. It can create a whole mess in your life, or it can also create a whole haven for you just by choosing one option. And choosing that option was difficult for me. I used to think all day. I had so many days. I just went on thinking without any action. I even skipped so many opportunities. I even left jobs after trying, but each step was worth it. Because I understood this, I quit all opportunities and was confused because I didn't...
Mental Health during an Economic Crisis
An economic crisis takes a toll on everyone in the community. During these times it is normal to feel stressed. Uncertainty about the future, loss of income, inability to pay bills/repay debts, inflation and unemployment are some key causes that affect mental health. Some people may experience anxiety, depression, insomnia, social withdrawal, physical ailments, and other conditions. It is important to take care of our mental health during these tough times. Make time for resting and relaxation, engage in a hobby you love, and talk to someone close to you. It's totally okay to ask for help...

Mongla: A Haven for Climate Change Refugees?
Climate Change has begun displaying its catastrophic self to the world. The rising sea levels, irregularity of seasons, and increase in the number of natural disasters are some of the large-scale consequences causing havoc in various vulnerable regions of the world. However, in recent times, Climate Change has also branched out its adverse effects across the environmental domain and has forced people to transmute into ‘Climate Refugees’. ‘Climate Refugees’ could be simply defined as the large-scale migration of people due to the environmental reason of climate change. And one of the regions...
The world's a putrescent sight.
I open up my eyes in the morning that doesn't feel like morning anymore. The World's full of decay and furore. There's always a tint of depression I carry, why I carry is still not known. I now reminisce over the golden days I enjoyed earlier, why not now, I really can't show. There are ups and downs, troughs and crests, I wear a personality all distressed. Pulling me down, down and down, Into an ocean lacking perception and sound. I am a human being, fettered with the chains of emotion. I overthink, to forget the life of devotion. I am determined on breaking the monotony, the malediction cast...
