I've been feeling miserable

February 12, 2020
Health

It's funny how my last post is about feeling better and now I'm writing about how miserable I am, but I feel a strong urge to write about every aspect of my life. The good and the bad. In order for you to understand why I am so miserable, firstly I need to tell you about my backround. I am a 19 year old student studying communication sciences (which was my dream college). Currently I am in a healthy relationship, for the first time, with an phenomenal person. I am living with my brother and sister since my parents moved to Germany to work. I am financially stable and my grades are excellent...

Celebration of Earth Day

April 21, 2020
Environment

Hi, I am Alex. Let's deflect our thoughts a bit from a current coronavirus situation and think for a second about our Planet Earth. We celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd every year and on that occasion we remind ourselves how each of us can contribute to preserving our precious planet and keeping it safe and healthy for the generations to come. After all it is the only planet where people can live and therefore we should be aware how do we behave in turn. So, here are some practical examples that I stick to in my daily life, you might find them interesting and useful: I recycle and separate...

Earth – The colorful "ball" we live on

April 21, 2020
Environment

This colorful “Ball” we live on is called Earth. Earth is rich in water, mountains, ores, plains, plants, animals. The countries are rich in nations, cultures, differences, specialties. Let's do our best to make our “Ball” greener, more colorful, happier. Every year, on April 22, we celebrate Earth Day. Earth is our home and we are all responsible for it – children, young people and the elderly. We have a duty to take care of it and preserve it. Global environmental actions are slowly changing consciousness and the world, but time is running out. We urgently need to be informed better, more...

Going back to school during a global pandemic

September 18, 2020
Education
With the start of a new school year just around the corner and the COVID-19 pandemic still in full swing, students' views on going back to school are divided. The question of whether to return to school or not is an everyday conversation topic and has been more relevant than ever before. So, what should we do when the pandemic is still far from being over but our right to education is at stake? Quality of online classes has been heavily debated ever since the schools were closed last time. While there are many perks of online classes and learning from home has shown its good sides, many...

Earthquake in Zagreb: seven months later

October 26, 2020
Environment
The other night I watched documentary on TV about the earthquake in Zagreb which happened seven months ago. The scenes brought me back exactly to that early morning which I will never forget, when some sort of unnatural shaking force woke me and my parents up. Those few seconds of shock and confusion will remain deeply etched into my memory for the whole life. It was really tough. We figured out quickly what we were supposed to do and were in the street in about fifteen minutes, together with all other people from my neighbourhood. It was cold, so we had to dress well. It was a time of the...

How to feel better

April 25, 2019
Health

Sometimes life can get pretty difficult to deal with, but it's important to always get back on the right track. When it gets the hardest, that's when you need to work on yourself the most. No matter how old you are, everyday tasks can start to seem impossible; even a simple "getting out of bed" can become a daily struggle. That's when you know that something's wrong with you. When I say "wrong" I don't mean that you're bad, unhealthy or broken. To me it simply means that you need a break to collect yourself and there's nothing wrong with taking a step back. Today's generation has to deal with...

The migrant crisis: a danger for the European Union, or an opportunity to be human?

May 16, 2019
Human Rights
During the last few years, Europe has found itself in an unexpected situation: the migrant and refugee crisis which peaked in 2014. The estimated number of refugees in search of shelter in 2014 was 886.000 people, which was 269.400 (+45%) more than during the previous year, while in southern Europe that number reached 170.700, which was 95% more than the previous year. (Source: UNHCR) During those times, Europe was supposed to show the world that it would turn the principles it stood and fought for during the times of stability into action. Unfortunately, Europe failed to do so and showed that...

We have to save the fading beauty of the earth

May 23, 2019
Environment
All things that surround us have their home: the stars have the night sky, the wind has the fleeting hug of the leaves, thousands of little creatures are hidden in the meadow, and the birds are nestled in the groves. When their melodious singing meets the disturbing noise of the crowding cars, in each feather covered chest, a small heart trembles in fear, scared of the ruination of their nests, while we live on unbothered. Every home we know of is on Earth, a small part of the universe we all belong to, but do we appreciate it, protect it like we should?

Is migration the only chance for good life?

May 29, 2019
Human Rights
When, a thousand years ago, a human’s ancestor took his shoes and stick and went to a different mountain, he never knew that would start gigantic migrations that we know today. According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, there were four big migration waves in human history. The first and biggest one of them was the Big Atlantic migration. It took place in the 19th and 20th century when 37 million people moved from Europe to the United States. The main reasons for the Big Atlantic migration were hunger and poverty. After World War II, 16 million Germans returned to Germany from Eastern Europe and...

What we want from our leaders

June 4, 2019
Human Rights
When I was a little girl, I would always hear my family complaining over our government and our leaders. One day I asked them: “If you don’t agree with our government then, why don’t you do something about it?” They just looked at me and laughed. They said: “You are too little to understand, it’s not that easy.” Since that moment I’ve grown and I’ve learnt, so I’ve chosen this topic to finally share my opinion about it.
