World Children's Day
In celebration of World Children's Day and as part of the #voicesofyouth Illustration Challenge, I've painted this piece, to reimagine a better world for all children. I envision a future where every child has access to children’s literature that reflects the diversity of our lives, challenges and dreams: A future where books are not only accessible to every child, but also encourage young readers to engage with our diverse world, through inclusive texts and illustrations and through impulses for independent thought processes. Furthermore it is crucial for children’s books to function as a...
16 days of activism to eliminate violence against women
Last week began the 16 days of activism to eliminate violence against women. And unfortunately in the society where I live we are very far from meeting the goal of these dates, that is why I decide to speak and write, that is why I commit to fight, because there are many women who cannot do it and that marks us, It changes us, it hurts us. It is getting up every day and seeing another victim on television, on the networks seeing another request for help or on the street seeing how the harassment is normalized, it is living in fear for me and for many, but since I realize that fear does not...
Am I next?
It is estimated that over 40% of South African women will be raped in their lifetime. Gender based violence is at the highest we have ever seen in our country and in the world. This closely showing the imbalance that lies between men and women. Men have so much power in our country that they feel entitled to a women’s body. I have gone through all the emotional stages, first I experienced sadness for the girls who had been raped and murdered at the hands of men. Then I became fearful for my life and the final stage was one of anger. I was angry at our government and every single member of...
Youth with disabilities and leisure time: are culture and sports accessible?
Whispers of the Night
The world is dark, these marks will tell, Body, heart equally marred, with pains untold, but sung to the dark. We live in a prison, our skins the cage, come closer, heed and listen, to the whispered tale. “Scars fade but won’t heal, times change that’s the deal we won’t always lie in wait when the time comes you’ll feel our pain Tit for tat that’s how it goes an eye for an eye Nemesis knows” I swear with every breath I take my child’s path I intend to make I know it’s a hard path to pave But I swear I won’t let them call my child a slave
Leadership - What Does The Youth Want?
In today’s world, our political leaders are more significant than ever before, dominating headlines over a debate, a policy or a controversial statement. The quality of our everyday lives is dependent upon the decisions made by a handful of these inherently powerful individuals. And yet, upon further investigation, the very definition of a political leader remains somewhat obscure. Is it simply a member of a governing office? A faceless figure of authority? A rallying spearhead of inspiration? Whatever one’s personal answer may be, we can reasonably agree that leadership in politics institutes...
Choosing to Challenge - International Women's Day 2021
I will begin this particular post by saying that I am incredibly excited to be writing this. I must confess that the 8th of March is permanently circled in my calendar, and decorated with quite a lot of exclamation marks. However, I am also going to admit that, up until now, I have often felt as though my views are less welcome as if my voice is one that the world is less inclined to listen to. As someone who studies Politics, History, and Sociology, I was confused to discover that all the great thinkers we were encouraged to study, whose works we were implored to absorb and remember were men...
Northern Lights
Title = Northern Lights In the stories of Northern Lights She heard whispers of the night Of a one creature who's love is To love another She sat by her loneliness one day, Thoughts on the book beside her bed That recalls a time where The world is divided And people are intimidated Based on true story it said Turns out It's the world we now lived So she wrote to her books Of her desire to assist Her books says yes Everyone around her echoes "no" Our dear she sat again, now in a momentary laps And shared her thoughts to the city lights Burned her candle, Just to watch it all sink If possible...
Scarlet patch
I am standing here in front of the canvas, Staring at the plain white paper, Thinking where to start off with my brush, Trying to unveil the inner painter. My mind is cramming with the thoughts of today, Imagining the amount of pleasure he had attained, In the afternoon bus that I take everyday, That's where my body had been stained. His abysmal tap on my bosom, Might have satisfied his virile worth, But that had left my soul numb, While no one in the jammed bus had cared to come forth. My unsettled mind can think of nothing, My rugged emotions are ablazed, My inner self feels pinned down with...
Normalizing gender norms is not okay!
Gender norms have been normalized within us since our birth. It is since our birth that we are given a rule book of how a man and woman should behave to be socially accepted. As a child, a girl is given dolls, play kitchen sets, makeups, etc( socially certified feminine toys) to play with because she is expected to grow up as a sophisticated woman who will take care of the household and bring up children and boys wherever are given bats and balls, gaming toys ( socially certified masculine toys) because they are expected to grow up as a tough and strong man who will have to take the...
World Children's Day
Having a magical childhood you can always go back to with such nostalgia for all of the happy memories I think has an impact on the adults we become. I don't know how one would deal with having being denied such an experience that is one of our basic and most important rights. This year I wish with my entire heart that no child's childhood gets stolen. I wish all conflicts, world issues that are affecting children come to an end. This Children's Day I am more aware than ever of the real struggles children face. Of how they go through such challanges too big and difficult for their age. I will...
A beautiful world without discrimination (World Children's Day 2020)
I am Syeda Sabiqun Nahar from Bangladesh. I dream of a world where 'discrimination' is no longer present among us, rather, it would just become a term coined in our least liked part of the history. I hope to see a world where people from around the globe irrespective of their gender, class, creed and preferences join forces to provide a greener and safer environment for their children. I wish to live in a world where women and children are stronger and safe with the support of their family. And underneath the masks we're wearing today, may everyone's smiles remain unscathed. #voicesofyouth
Equality for everyone
I imagine a world where every child is treated with equality and love disregarding culture, ethnicity and race. A future free of child abuse and child labour and a future where every child can smile
Reimagining a greener future without discrimination
My dream has always been to help people around the world. I create art to spread awareness about the improvements that we can create for our world if we work together. In this art piece, my message is to be kind and push towards making a world where everyone can find success and love, regardless who they are and the challenges they face. I want to remind people about the importance of a greener world with equality for all. Together, we can develop a life worth living! Love yourself, love others, and spread kindness!!
A Prosperous World
I imagine a world where all children are happy. Everyone is special in their own ways and these differences should be celebrated! Everyone should be loved and included, no matter their identity! Our differences make us who we are as individuals!
A world that is open for every child to take part and contribute to make it a better place
I envision a united world that produces young leaders and role models, where everybody's well-being is observed, especially children's; a world with people who acknowledge their skills and talents; where their innocence and diverseness are valued and appreciated; a place where the community listens and welcomes their opinions with respect: a world that is open for every child to take part and contribute to make it a better place.
World Children's Day 2020: #voicesofyouth illustration challenge!
When I saw this challenge I immediately thought of a world where every child can reach their complete human development without complications and obstacles to their growth. I couldn't choose which cause to draw as I believe every one of the UNDP goals should be implemented for children to develop in a peaceful and constructive environment. Then I thought of UNICEF's work against malnutrition and of the positive effects a good diet has on small human beings and decided to draw a corncob in the kid's hand as a symbol of healthy and simple food. The kid is happy and wears an elastic band...

My World Reimagined
I was happened to envision or reimagine another world, other than the one we live in, and a superior world than our current. I would decide to have a world with no differentiation and racism between people. It’s such a major subject to discuss during our advanced or modern time and is something that ought to be halted before it gets greater and difficult to control. Recent events have shown that race is a topic that has been long overdue. Communities around the world have taken to social media and the streets to protest the unlawful, unjust treatment that occurs to individuals based on race...
