This life is about packaging! Your package explains your personality before your content. Many people work on their content forgetting their container {package} which gives the first impression about them. Many a times we are called what we are not, because of our package. Sometime ago, I remember sharing flyers for a conference around a bank and I walked up to a guy who some boys had gone to beg from. Before I could say a word the guy told me "I'm sorry I have no money to give you". Funny right, the statement of the guy left me thinking. I didn't go to the guy to beg but I appeared as a...
Last night I counted How many blemishes I wanted to fix From knee to toe on one leg alone I found forty-six That's forty-six reminders of my shame Forty-six ghosts that haunt me with insecurity Forty-six times I stared into the mirror Crying over my impurity I am a ruined canvas Covered in billions of paint splatters Buy me a palette the color of invisibility So with my image I can feel flattered But these messengers of self-hatred Can never be exchanged for pride I can never be free, for they cannot be severed Believe me, I've tried But perhaps there's a reason why scars are forever To serve...
A few months ago, for the first time in a very, very long time, I looked at myself in the mirror for more than a couple of minutes. I used to cry every time I saw my reflection, so I figured that it would be best for me if I just stopped looking. Every time I looked at my body, all I saw were my flaws. All I saw were the stretch marks I despised, the scars I longed to cover, the features I could never change. Honestly, I probably never would have thought to try to learn how to love myself again, if it hadn’t been for my mom. One day, she asked me a very simple question, and yet this question...
The coronavirus has given all of us a once in a lifetime opportunity. The children are lying on their couches watching the television without the slightest sense of fear that they have tons of homework to complete. The middle-aged people are working from home, away from the nerve racking supervision of their not-so-desirable bosses, the busy parents can work and look after their children at the same time and the old ones are enjoying the company of their family. Now if everyone is getting what he or she wants, then why are we complaining? It’s not every day that the governments forcefully...
The past five months have not been going well for the entire planet. The whole world is fighting a pandemic. The number of cases and the number of deaths increases hour by hour. Initially, I watched the daily updates from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s briefings or even Cuomo Prime Time on CNN. Watching too much of the news and these statistical numbers made me feel anxious though, and I eventually stopped watching, but I still receive updates through the notifications on my phone. Lockdowns have caused educational institutions to close and shift to online learning. Many first-year university...
This piece of art work is inspired by a thought to grow despite the unprecedented times. If we focus too much on Corona, we are locking out thoughts. The key is with us to unlock our thoughts and actions to make our base strong like the roots and grow like the shoot. Let's keep the fire burning to learn, grow and help each other for a better today and a beautiful tomorrow.
Our fingers are all crossed As we all hope for a cure A cure to end the pandemic of Covid 19 Which has killed a many like Ebola did in 15 Friends have journeyed to the land of the dead Enemies have journeyed as well We are now united by sympathies but still divided by entities Our compassions cannot travel beyond the walls of our rooms We are now left to succumb to the limitations set by W.H.O As that is better me and you Our fingers are still crossed As we hope for a cure A cure to make things get back to how it used to be like before.
Coronavirus pandemic is undoubtedly the crisis of the hour, They say that humans are the smartest of all the beings present on this planet, They say that God keeps testing humans as he knows that being the smartest he would surely come out victorious, Today this crisis indeed seems to be like a huge log of wood glaring 7.3 billion of us, there are thousands of unanswered questions that are enveloping our minds in the best ways, unfortunately all the answers which we struggle to get are full of uncertainties and darkness , yet I know that as, you and I live for that one ray of hope, which truly...
Hey! I'm Anushya! Yeah I'm just your average 15 year old teenage girl who has a pretty normal life here in Malaysia. You know, go to school; eat; sleep; finish all the homework; watch movies; socialize and all that again on repeat. Hahahaha fun right? Well, incase you're wondering, YES; I have insecurities too and YES; i've thought about living in someone else's life before too and YES; i know how you feel. Let me share something vulnerable here. I always feel extremely insecure because of all the acne on my face, the "not-so-model-type" of body I have, the scars and marks I have and a few...
When I'm blind Fear constricting my lungs When I've taken the poison Head wracked with pain, I've been stung My thoughts run wild I couldn't control them even if I tried This overthinking, it won't stop What can I do when my brain's been fried? If I can If I can remember I go back to the river Or in my head, back to that September Cool sparkling water Runs down my face and hands Running back down to the edge And on to faraway lands With it my memories Bad, worrying, harrowing All my thoughts and fears The span of my pain narrowing The mountains and the ocean Brings me home, keeps me free...
I wrote a poem (Quoted At Bottom) talking about my beliefs about 2020. I wrote it on New Years Eve, just a few hours before midnight. Looking back at it now during this pandemic, there is a lot we can look at and reflect on, so let's break it down and see what we can find out. "2020 A year where voices are silenced no longer, For an alarm clock is never silenced." When we first hear about an issue that can spread and wreak havoc, we must sound the alarm to the world. We cannot stand there and watch our world fall apart. Looking at this now, we learn the fault that we made by not listening to...
The COVID-19 era has been a wake up call. And I'm hoping that when it's all over, we remember the first time we smelled the coffee. Why say that, you may ask? Let me explain.
Tawakalit Kareem is a young Nigerian woman and the founder of The Butterfly Project. This is her #COVIDPositiveStory. Before the Lagos State Government announced the two weeks lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic in the state, I knew I had to do something for vulnerable people who will be the hardest hit. I felt an urgency to be a part of the solution. On the 24th of March, I launched a campaign on Instagram and WhatsApp tagged; “1for1with5k”. The aim of the campaign is to encourage individuals who could afford five thousand naira (14 USD) to an individual/family who couldn’t. The idea was...
When we blog, write poetry, sing and do art, it’s not about the rhyme. We are trying be a voice for the voiceless, to bring hope to the hopeless and help our leaders to make wise choices and show them that wars are pointless. We are trying to influence communities and open their eyes to the boundless opportunities. We try to show the value of genuine humanity and that progress is only through unity. We are trying to uplift human culture, to change people’s lives, show them that it can be done without guns and knives. But as we teach, we’re also trying to entertain, to get some minds off the...
I, just like the rest of the world, am stuck at home due to the outbreak of COVID-19. The coronavirus has caused our lifestyle to change dramatically and in order to meet these rapidly changing conditions we must utilise our time to expand our knowledge, as well as maintaining stable mental, physical and social health. Here are some suggestions that I would like to provide: Upcycling clothes ? Learning a new language ? Calligraphy ? Writing poems (these can be submitted through online competitions to potentially win prizes!) ? Indoor Karaoke ? Scrapbooking ? Blogging online ? Start a diary...
To the youth, What do you want to do? Some of us have never really put thought into the future, but the fact is at the same time, we are always thinking about it. Each day we learn something new, whether we realize it or not. To find what we want to do, also known as our vision, we must tune in to the world. While you may think you are learning one thing, you can also be learning another, but we can only find what that is if we open our mind to the opportunity to learn. For an example, you may be doing a group project on the history of democracy, when really you are learning much more. You are...
Who are you Yesterday, Today Who do you want to be Tomorrow, Next week, Next Month, Next Year Do you spend a lot of time thinking about the future, and forget about living in the moment. Or should we not be ignorant about what will happen tomorrow. It's never a straight road any day but you're not alone
As I pen my reflections, my mother is preparing food and my father is bringing fruits for me to eat. I’m not one among the thousands anxious about whether there are enough food provisions at home or how much longer can we sustain with limited money at hand. Thankfully, I come from a moderately well-off family. But it is sad that I hardly thought about what the marginalised population is going through and the difficulty this pandemic is bringing to each person, forget doing something for it. This pandemic is turning the world upside down, even so, things look fine for me. Some areas look great...
My dad has been in isolation in a new flat since the 15th of March in a city which is a long way from home. He doesn’t know how to cook. I’m a 16 year old student studying in the UK and I flew back to Delhi with my sister a few days before India closed it’s borders. To clarify, I have no idea how to cook either - the extent of my culinary skills is making cup a noodles at the most. But I have my mother and sister with me, both amazing at cooking so my meals for the day are covered. My dad, on the other hand, has nobody. With limited stock and no cooking skills, this isolation period has not...
