ANIMALS - a poem
They sit in a row yet we think of them as low, We disobey the line but think they are undisciplined in mind, Shouldn't we give them a bow For how they are kind. Gazing them graze green grass makes me feel enliven, As I think of, caring for them will pay back, As of now all crazy I am driven, By how we treat them, in fact. All I am mesmerized by the beauty they hold, Can only say it loud that they deserve much more, Shouldn't we mould - ourselves, for it's shouting "enough" from core. I see them below the sapphire, not between the iron, Still there is a fire, to see in the wild a lion.
Leveraging Duckweed for a More Sustainable and Scalable Bioplastic
What do shoes, tea bags, T-shirts, and mobile phones have in common? It may come as a surprise that they all contain plastic, and it is not unlikely that most of the items you use in your everyday life contain plastic as well. There are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic in the ocean with an addition of 8 million pieces every day, and at this rate, we could be left with more plastic than fish in the ocean by the year 2050. I’m a 15-year-old passionate about sustainability, and I have the goal of playing a role in transforming the way we manufacture plastic. Plastic pollution is not news to us; we...

Climate Change - A Call to Action
A man made disaster of global scale, And with it, it's huge implications prevail Our greatest threat in thousands of years, Waiting on the horizon for us. A marginal rise in sea levels and millions displaced; Is it just the environment, or is it also you who is at stake? Us and our environment aren't two. How can you be oblivious to the destruction of me and you? The challenge before us - is bigger than any of us, But it requires - every single one of us. We don't have long before civilizations extinct Millions are already affected and billions are at risk. Can you sense a need of urgency...
Nature Tree Dawn
Forests are where animals can breed But trees are all gone because of greed There must be something that we can still do But do you care about the things around you -Yang This inspired me because nature brings joy, and it transforms us. It’s is like magic. It is the most precious gift that God gave us and we treat our environment badly, putting trash all over the seas and in the grass. It is time for us to look deeper into taking care of our environment. If we don’t care for the environment, animals will have no homes. We won’t be able to eat and receive food. Life wouldn’t exist without our...
Democratic Crisis Response: COVID-19 and Climate Change
In reflecting on what has unfolded since January 2020, it is worthwhile to assess the extent to which the COVID-19 pandemic can teach us about global action against climate change. We know that despite early claims of economic slowdown, decreasing carbon emissions were incorrect, and GHG emissions continue to rise at record-breaking levels. Parallels, however, between the global scale of COVID-19 and our climate crisis beg several questions about how democratic societies fare in times of crisis as effective mechanisms for upholding societal wellness. How have democratic societies responded to...

Maybe This Is World
Flowers bloom only when the sky cries, Rainbows are colorful only when the sun shines bright, There might be an earthquake deep below the ocean but from above we only see the waves giant, Fire only burns when there is a candle to hold it upright, Angels are possible only when the humans are kind, not when the demon's still in mind, Stars dazzle only when the night sky is dark. Maybe this is world, where miracles happen only when the disasters embark.
A Stagnant Walk Through Shallow Waters - A Short Story
As I laid down to fall asleep the last thing I heard was the static noise from the television and felt the early afternoon warmth. “The sun must be glad this afternoon.” I wondered if the sun would greet me with that same enthusiasm when I got up in the late afternoon that same day. I opened my eyes and instead I was met with the raging sun and a figure I couldn’t fully make out. It stared at me as I stared at it. I took a step forward, so did the figure before me. We were standing on shallow water. The atmosphere hissed but the figure did not flinch. The figure turned its back and began to...
Development of A.I. should slow down
The Times magazine for the week of November 22 included a section called "Best Inventions of 2021." As I read through it, I saw numerous inventions related to STEM. For example, there was a car that teaches kids how to code and a building kit for kids to build a robot hand and learn about hydraulics. These inventions really hype me up. However, there was this specific invention that really bothered me a lot: A Compassionate Companion. This story was about Robin the robot, who spent time with an 8-year-old pneumonia patient who refused to eat. As it played with the kid for several hours, it...
The Final Testament
Dear mortals, I’VE BEEN WATCHING. It is unexplainably sad how every melancholy that has been brought upon earth is blamed on me. I do accept the fact that there can’t be anything lustrous in events like death and destruction; but how is it any better to blame the consequence, instead of the actions and negligence that created the chaos? The only responsibility I have been burdened with is to guide your lost souls, but I cannot witness any more of these malevolent events; nor can I besiege all your curses upon myself. I have seen how your malicious actions have drained the Earth of all its...
Zambia bans the use of plastic bags- Good move?
Since 1977 plastics bags have been an essential part of our day to day lives. They have made the transportation of goods such as food, chemicals and even waste materials much easier. However, due to the non-biodegradable and polluting nature of most plastic bags on the market, bans have been placed on their production in many African countries like Rwanda and Kenya. Zambia too has decided to step up as it announced the ban on the use of plastic bags and their resultant waste through the Ministry of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection. This was in accordance with section...
Climate Change Needs Diverse Youth Leadership and Accessibility
What we are actually doing for climate
Today we face a terrible truth, and that is climate change. A truth that has thrown man into a trance. Our climate is now unfamiliar to us, it is changing very rapidly. But sadly, people are responsible for our own climate change. Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries in Asia. Every year, people suffer from various disasters like floods and storms. They suffer from various diseases. Lack of communication system and lack of awareness, they suffer a lot. So who is actually responsible for this? Are we actually responsible for this? No. We aren’t. Most polluter countries are emitting...
