Look away

January 6, 2020
Human Rights

“Look away” By Lith V This world where men and women are born without clothes, Taken into the hands of nurses, parents and even uncles and aunts. That naked body without a sliver of clothing, All anyone looks at is the innocent face of the youngling. Well, then they grow up, Have to go through the phases of pre-school and school, The youngling first a toddler growing up with his or her childish mischievousness, Maybe clothed or naked, But all anyone pays attention to is their safety and childhood innocence. Then, like I said before, They go to school - Some bearing both genders, But most...

"The beauty definition"

January 14, 2020
Human Rights

Comparison, cruel judgement, Overpowering the world. They want to make a statement, Give a single definition- Regarding what counts as beauty in a girl. Fair skin, bright eyes, Hair that’s nice, Lovely curves that’s just right. Their mind naturally spies, Like that’s the only beauty in sight. What’s wrong with being dark? Do they not stand out in a park? Or does it make them less a woman, Being couple of shades different, Than the typical white woman? I mean no disrespect, To any white man or woman who accepts- That being tan or dark, Do not refrain you from having that spark, In your body and...

Storm and Fire

April 23, 2020
Environment

I see the fires raging, the fumes blanketing the skies. I hear a continent screaming, as its perishing ecosystem sighs. The powerless koalas are burning, unable to outrun the flames. The does and joeys are embracing over a charred buck's remains. The mighty glaciers are melting, tumbling down to the seas, and the little islands are drowning, as we go up a few degrees. The helpless turtles are emerging with plastic in their throats, and the lively dolphins are choking, no longer chasing the steamboats. The coral reefs are vanishing, and with them, our oxygen supplies. And the earth's balance is...

Covid-19 & Sri Lanka

April 24, 2020
Health

Sri Lanka, as all the other nations of the world, is suffering from the outbreak of novel coronavirus. We are under Police curfew from 20th March. Within intervals curfew was paused for 6-8 per day to 19 of 25 non-dangerous districts. Now 21 districts get a release from 5.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. All the schools were closed a day after identifying the first Sri Lankan Covid-19 patient. Many schools send students schoolwork via social media. We had a controlled situation, but it seems getting worse now, with more than 40 recording on 24th. Let's stay home, stay safe!

From fear to pride: a storm of emotions for this 13-year-old in Sri Lanka

May 5, 2020
Personal growth
Fear paralysed me as I gazed at the television screen. My ears were ringing at the mention of deaths of people from the coronavirus. The numbers were so large, and I couldn’t take it in at once. For a few minutes, I just sat there, trying to process what I had just heard, but for the moment it made no sense. Many emotions clouded up my head making it humanly impossible to think straight. All I could make out was my holiday that I was planning and saving up for months was ruined. I was annoyed at how countries let an invisible microbe emerge and spread instantaneously throughout the world in...

You are the only one you'll ever need

June 14, 2020
Personal growth

People will tell you are you're ugly People will tell you that you dont deserve to be here & they'll tell you that you're a big mistake. But at the end of the day It doesnt matter what they say Because you know that no matter what..you'll always be there for yourself.

They deserve it too!!

August 14, 2020
Environment

Animals…what could they possibly be thinking about us? What would they say about us humans?? Do they talk?? Yes they DO!! We just cannot figure it out. Think for a moment, if they could communicate with us as how we do with each other, what would they say?? Just because we are human and we are able to talk, that does not mean the animals do not have rights to stand up for. At the end, we all are the children of Mother Nature, aren’t we? Nowadays everyone is speaking about human rights and equality, but no one seems to be caring about rights of animals. Even though they do not fight for it...

I imagine a world where every child is treated with equality and love disregarding culture, ethnicity and race. A future free of child abuse and child labour and a future where every child can smile

Whispers of the Night

December 7, 2020
Human Rights

The world is dark, these marks will tell, Body, heart equally marred, with pains untold, but sung to the dark. We live in a prison, our skins the cage, come closer, heed and listen, to the whispered tale. “Scars fade but won’t heal, times change that’s the deal we won’t always lie in wait when the time comes you’ll feel our pain Tit for tat that’s how it goes an eye for an eye Nemesis knows” I swear with every breath I take my child’s path I intend to make I know it’s a hard path to pave But I swear I won’t let them call my child a slave

Becoming an adult; are you ready??

December 8, 2020
Personal growth

I am about to turn 18 recently, which means I will be known as an “adult” thereafter. I remember how I felt about being an adult in the future, when I was only 8. I imagined doing everything on my own; without asking for anyone’s permission. The 8-year-old me thought that it would be great to take decisions alone. But now, when I am almost an adult, I feel like I want to go back in time and be the same 8-year-old girl, to live as a child forever. “Why am I feeling like this?” “What is it that I fear to become?” “Am I the only one who’s ever felt like this?” My mind is full of questions. When...

Define you

February 25, 2019
Personal growth

Year 2018, that was the year I was going to live life true to myself. At least that was what I thought I was going to do. What ended happening was much more different. I continued to fear revealing my true self unapologetically because I thought I would be rejected for it. I continued going with the crowd flow and putting up a front 'cause everyone expected me to be something; so much more different to what I actually was feeling. Hiding my true feelings, I continued on. Until the breaking point later in the year. November is a hectic month. Just a month before the end of the year, everyone...

Human kind

November 29, 2020
Environment

It’s the age of change, we’re on to the next stage, Wars are coming and diseases are spreading, The blunt truth, Human kind is on decline. we’ve reached the peak, and now it’s over, it’s time to feel the heat, and pay the price, for the crimes, human kind has done, after all we’re only one, one species in this world, we’ve passed through all , the destructive times, but enough is enough, we’ve got to stop! Stop ruining this world, it’s all we have. I have no idea with what notion, people destroy the ocean, at least let the poor fish be, swimming so happily in the sea, what do you gain, by...

For a better 2021

December 31, 2020
Personal growth

As 2020 is about to come to an end, everyone is hoping that 2021 will be better, in every way. It’s up to the nature to decide the world’s future, but there are certain tasks that we can do to make 2021 better. Even though we had to stay locked up in our houses and pause everything we used to do, the time did not wait for us. Remember how we started this year with thousands of hopes? Were you able to complete the tasks you planned to do within 2020? If the answer is “Yes”, it means nothing can stop you, not even a global pandemic. But I suppose the majority has to say “No”, including the...

The definition of Feminism

August 7, 2021
Human Rights

Feminism. The word itself has adopted a graphic image of marching angry women trying to over power men and take what's theirs. Well at least in most countries does this stand true. I think it's time to travel back to the Oxford language definition of feminism; "the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes." To say so, simply; we are just people, fighting to for equal power and taking what rightfully belongs to us, just as much as it belong to everyone else. Speaking from a Sri Lankan standpoint, this starts from every minute detail. From forcing women into marriage...

World War Vs World Love

August 10, 2019
Violence & Conflict

I would like to ask 5 questions from you. Let's answer these questions from the bottom of your heart. In the meantime, I will answer them. 1) We all will die one day from natural reasons. Do you want to die from wars, terrorism or violence? No, I don't 2) Many countries(including my motherland) have their own military. So, what is the main purpose of each countries' military system? To protect their motherland from violence, terrorism, and wars. 3) What's the reason for violence, terrorism, and wars? The lack of loving yourself and to the world. 4) We can have different religious beliefs, skin...

Mental Health during an Economic Crisis

May 12, 2022
Health

An economic crisis takes a toll on everyone in the community. During these times it is normal to feel stressed. Uncertainty about the future, loss of income, inability to pay bills/repay debts, inflation and unemployment are some key causes that affect mental health. Some people may experience anxiety, depression, insomnia, social withdrawal, physical ailments, and other conditions. It is important to take care of our mental health during these tough times. Make time for resting and relaxation, engage in a hobby you love, and talk to someone close to you. It's totally okay to ask for help...
