Corruption is a super power?
What is corruption? Is it mass destruction of monumental instruction? Maybe it’s the path our fore fathers paved for us so we could be resurrected. Resurrection lies in the hands in which we have elected. Election, a funny word it may seem. Who is actually in control, is it you or me? We the people they say. We have the power they say. Your destiny is yours they say. Yet we live in a world where every man lives for themselves. Our life span is determined by the choices we left on the shelves. Depression, recessions, and yet still no acceptance. This is our generation. They act like they hate...
My Peace Message
The purpose of mankind today should be to inspire children and youths to become valuable advocates for tolerance and peace via education, talks and sensitization campaigns. “We are here because we know that literacy is the key to unlocking the cage of human misery; the key to delivering the potential of every human being; the key to opening up a future of freedom and hope. We are here to open a decade that must translate that hope into reality.” Kofi Annan. Today's modern world is becoming smaller, integrated and technologically more advanced. It is also becoming fragmented, less peaceful and...
Yearning for a world with peace
Have you ever imagined a world full of happiness, laughter, love, and getting along with everyone in the world? These are the thoughts that come to my mind when I think of peace and how the world can be full of hope. Right now, there is a lot that is going on in every corner of the world. The ongoing pandemic, racism, bullying, being harassed for wanting to accept yourself the way you are, climate change that is leading to natural disasters including earthquakes, floods, droughts etc. I like to look back at a certain year that I feel was a really good one and reminisce on the good memories...
How does violence affect us ?
Hello, my name is Asia. A small girl in a big world. I live in little Haiti where I witness all the crime that goes on. Living here, it’s scary not being able to walk down the street without seeing some sort of violence. It’s March and during this time the violence increases. From the wild young adults at beach parties, to the shootings in clubs, and fights that go on in the streets. That’s all I’ve been seeing. I wish that one day this will all change. Imagine living in a world with no violence. Yeah I know, seems peaceful right? If only, this thought in my head wasn’t an imagination I’d be...
Islamophobia and terrorism
What's the definition of terrorism? It's to achieve a political objective through the use of violence and fear. Terrorists are just nasty, evil, disgusting human beings who disrespect human life. All around the world some people think that all Muslims are terrorists and some think that Islam is the religion that teaches terrorism. We are facing a big phobia and that is Islamophobia. Us Muslims are actually not all terrorists and Islam does not teach us to kill people.
Effects of technology
Every day there are billions of people scrolling through social media. We can come across something positive or negative. Some teens and young adults try to encourage positivity, but some can post things that are negative. We as teens should take the responsibility and make a movement that can cause the internet to change for the better forever. We tend to forget the kind of power we have to bring kindness and generosity into our world. I personally sometimes wish that I was born back in the late 1900's just to take that the time to appreciate what I have now. I put myself in other people's...

We need change
On 14 February 2018, the day of love, there was a school shooting. On the day that's supposed to be filled with joy there were kids our age hiding under desks watching their teacher being gunned down and watching their classmates souls leave their bodies. This can happen to any school if our gun policies don't change. These gun policies have given many people opportunities to carry a weapon. They can carry it in their car, state parks, and even in restaurants. We are giving people too much power with these weapons. Who knows if a weapon can end up in the wrong hands. That person can go to a...
Can we hold on?
They turn echoes of your name Into howling dogs with hisses like snakes I know it aches to hear it all To watch the fouls be celebrated. Even more to ignore the name calls. But can you hold on Till we wander into the world Between voices that bloom flowers And coffee scented mists that warm our palms You know it exists, Where there's origami Embedded on butterfly wings. You know we can go there. So if you can't hold my hand Hold my words Let's charge into a world Between falling snow And blooming petals. Where everything is right Where the ache finally settles. - Shanya

Will I leave school, alive?
I will graduate high school on May 30, 2019, but I have two younger siblings who are barely beginning school. After the shooting of Marjory Stoneman High School, I never imagined a shooting to be so close to home. I would hear about other school shootings in far away states. It is evident that a shooting could happen at any time regardless of your location. It is insane how I must ask myself if I will make through the day. I fear for my younger sibling’s lives. I fear for the lives of my peers. Most importantly, I fear for my own life. I ask myself again, “Will I leave school, alive?” I ask...
Personal growth
Children, mainly teens this day and age can be easily influenced by negative things and fall into traps. I understand the new difficulties children and teens like me have to face at such a young age like drugs, sexual assault, and even suicide. But I'm also aware of the opportunities my generation can use to reach out to and help people going through these things. Most people think of social media as a distraction or a brain washer that makes us lazy, but I think otherwise. Voices of Youth is a part of social media, is it not? I believe people of this day and age can use social media to make a...

It starts with me
As we are struggling with this great pandemic that rips us from our women and children, we live in fear and ask ourselves the question:"Am I next?". Our women, children, and even our men are being kidnapped and all we can do about it is beg, plead and cry that somehow the people that are authorized to protect us come through and make us feel safe. We live in fear. Life is supposed to be lived and yet we sit in our houses and wonder who will be the next victim to these immoral happenings that are occurring around us. We have to be heard and we have to make ourselves known. We have to let them...
Gen Z, technology-dependent?
Are there any of us that don't want the iPhone 13 Pro? I think most Gen Z, such as myself, wanted to have one, if and only if it's possible. But as the saying goes, "It's like hitting the moon though! Why oh why? You're dreaming!! You're only a student!" And my answer is that "And so? If I was dreaming, then I wanted to dream high. It's only a dream, you know? There is no payment for it." Gen Z, such as myself, are so unpredictable nowadays. We are sometimes misinterpreted, especially by those who don't understand and who do not want to understand us. If we spend too much time watching k...
The underrepresentation of women in STEM
Throughout history women have been repressed in many ways, one of them being careers. The gender gap in STEM has decreased over time yet it is significant still. Some people suggest that this is simply innate - well there is a plethora of facts to prove them wrong. Various studies suggest that various factors, such as the encouragement from parents, the curriculum content, and the availability of hands-on laboratory experiences, influence the attitudes of young men toward math and science. If women were to be given the same opportunities, they could achieve great things. The discouragement of...
Appreciation post to all the young people making a difference
Some of the most important advances in social and climate affairs in the last few years were made by young people. The youth has been marking their position on decision making, in order to make the world a better place for everyone to live, in a way that no other generation ever did. After many years of destruction and conflict promotion, there seems to be a bigger concern over the protection of our planet, at the same time we try to provide a reasonable and fair life for everybody. I believe that is due to the scare we have that the world ends soon. People get angry about it but it is mostly...
